3 posts | 2 read | 5 to read
Sixteen of the world's great women writers speak about their work, their colleagues, and their lives. For More Than Forty Years, the acclaimed Paris Review interviews have been collected in the Writers at Work series. The Modern Library relaunches the series with the first of its specialized collections -- interviews with sixteen women novelists, poets, and playwrights, all offering rich commentary on the art of writing and on the opportunities and challenges a woman writer faces in contemporary society.

Okay, this is getting a huge feminist eye roll from me because there certainly aren‘t women out there writing amazing women characters. 🙄🙄🙄 We just wait for men to do it. 😒😒😒

silentrequiem Are you kidding me?!?!? 6y
Hestapleton Or the troubling phenomenon of men writing thrillers under women‘s (or gender ambiguous) names to sell more books. 6y

Lizpixie What about Karin Slaughter? Elizabeth George? Tess Gerritsen? Just to name a few.😡 6y
Megabooks @Hestapleton you mean like this one? 6y
Hestapleton @Megabooks Yup! And Riley Sager! Of FINAL GIRLS and the tagged 6y
Megabooks @Lizpixie I‘m not a big reader of thrillers, but when I did the #BOTMchallenge, I met a new female mystery/thriller writer pretty much every month. Not to mention titans like Dame Agatha, who was doing it before it was cool. 6y
julesG Mega eye-roll. 6y
GlassAsDiamonds I‘m a fan of Child but even I think that‘s a stretch...: 6y
Weaponxgirl Remember it‘s not legit until a man does it 😒 6y
Megabooks @julesG Yes! 😡 6y
Megabooks @GlassAsDiamonds I‘ve never read him. This certainly didn‘t improve my chances. 6y
Megabooks @Weaponxgirl That‘s what Caitlin Moran says. (I think she‘s a joke of a feminist because she basically said that.) 6y
Bookcation74 Seriously?!? 6y
Bookcation74 Pathetic 6y
BibliOphelia @$&?#!!! 6y
QueenJen Yep, it's a mega eye roll from here too 6y
Megabooks @BibliOphelia 🤬🤬🤬 6y
Megabooks @QueenJen For sure! 🙄🙄🙄 6y
Weaponxgirl @Megabooks she wasn‘t being sarcastic? I‘d be so sad to lose Caitlin moran as she is one of the few female voices that came from a working class background in the uk mainstream. 😭 6y
Megabooks @Weaponxgirl I stopped reading her nonfiction because she seemed to me to be saying, “If the guys aren‘t doing it, then that isn‘t what the women should be doing.” As a woman, I don‘t want to be a man or feel like my decisions as a woman should be based on anything other than my own opinions, regardless if it‘s what men or women are doing. It‘s not a positive message to me. That said, I do like her fiction. 👇🏻 6y
Megabooks @Weaponxgirl Maybe I misunderstood her, but if I didn‘t, then her message is not for me. I can understand liking other parts of her message. She‘s definitely an influential voice, just not for me. 6y
Weaponxgirl @Megabooks sorry, I had to ask. It always feels worse to me when it‘s a more marginal voice. She is one of the few people in the public sphere in the uk who has had a upbringing similar to my own. How shit is it when in the uk you actually rarely hear even a white working class voice that works in the media.? (edited) 6y
Weaponxgirl Thankyou for clarifying btw.really appreciated 6y
Megabooks @Weaponxgirl I somewhat understand. I‘m from semi-rural Kentucky, and I‘m always disappointed when a voice I enjoyed from the South/rural areas comes out with something I find disrespectful/harmful (usually racist/Islamophobic😒). 6y
Megabooks @Weaponxgirl oh and homophobic/transphobic. That‘s a popular thing for people to be around here, too. Even if they come across as inclusive at first glance. 😒 6y
Weaponxgirl @Megabooks I hear you! The working class has be co-opted here to only be pro brexit and any voice outside of how people think we should be is just ignored outright. It‘s not that I want a pack on the back for some of us being “better “I just want it to be acknowledged sometimes rather than media trying to further divisions between us all. 6y
Megabooks @Weaponxgirl Yes! The left wing media here sees the South as a bunch of yokels in blackface. It‘s very frustrating to have a stereotype forced on you. My mom was defriended by some people on Facebook because of my dad‘s Republican views. It was upsetting to her to be linked to him automatically when she doesn‘t agree. 😡 6y

Mack Little‘s inventive new release isn‘t in the database yet, but fans of horror & dark fantasy will love Zen Grant & her journey. “Unique” is an over-used term, but Little‘s language is creative & lush and she can spin an exciting story! #newrelease #darkfantasy #horror #talent #writerstowatch

I absolutely love reading writers speak about themselves and their craft and I especially love female writer collections. #8intwo
