The Last Time I Lied
The Last Time I Lied: A Novel | Riley Sager
In the new novel from the bestselling author of Final Girls, The Last Time I Lied follows a young woman as she returns to her childhood summer camp to uncover the truth about a tragedy that happened there fifteen years ago. Two Truths and a Lie. The girls played it all the time in their tiny cabin at Camp Nightingale. Vivian, Natalie, Allison, and first-time camper Emma Davis, the youngest of the group. The games ended when Emma sleepily watched the others sneak out of the cabin in the dead of night. The last she--or anyone--saw of them was Vivian closing the cabin door behind her, hushing Emma with a finger pressed to her lips. Now a rising star in the New York art scene, Emma turns her past into paintings--massive canvases filled with dark leaves and gnarled branches that cover ghostly shapes in white dresses. The paintings catch the attention of Francesca Harris-White, the socialite and wealthy owner of Camp Nightingale. When Francesca implores her to return to the newly reopened camp as a painting instructor, Emma sees an opportunity to try to find out what really happened to her friends. Yet it's immediately clear that all is not right at Camp Nightingale. Already haunted by memories from fifteen years ago, Emma discovers a security camera pointed directly at her cabin, mounting mistrust from Francesca and, most disturbing of all, cryptic clues Vivian left behind about the camp's twisted origins. As she digs deeper, Emma finds herself sorting through lies from the past while facing threats from both man and nature in the present. And the closer she gets to the truth about Camp Nightingale, the more she realizes it may come at a deadly price.

Finished this book in early October. I really enjoyed the mystery of it. I liked the flashback scenes as much as the current ones and found bbn it interesting how similar things were playing out. I really couldn't figure out what was happening until the end as there were so many characters in play it could have been. You just kept wandering what happened to the three girls. And what a shocking twist at the very very end!

Two truths and a lie:

1 - This book had me in a state of wonderment the entire time.

2 - I thought Emma had something to do with the girls disappearance.

3 - I'm not a fan of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.

This book was great!! I loved how Sager incorporated the truth/lie game throughout the entire story from when Emma first went to Camp Nightingale, her return to camp 15 years later, and even after! I definitely recommend this baby.

Cinfhen I'm not a fan of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, either 😉#LoveThem 🧡🧡🧡🧡especially the mini‘s (edited) 4w
cassiopia @Cinfhen I really don't thought. I like peanut butter, and I LOVE chocolate, but I don't enjoy them together. I'm an oddball 😂 3w

After reading and thoroughly enjoying Final Girls, I immediately purchased this book and was excited to get stuck in to another brilliant thriller. That wasn‘t the case for me. The plot started well enough but became drawn out and downright ridiculous towards the end. I‘m so disappointed.

As a side note, I read this as a Kindle ebook and it contains more typos than any other book in my Kindle library. It is shockingly bad 😤

Finished this one today. I really enjoyed it. I had to knock off a star for the Lovely Bones spoiler. I'll definitely keep waiting for the Final Girls to become available. I liked this author's writing style.

I‘ve read Sager‘s other books and loved them. I think I love this one the most! I couldn‘t wait to get back to it when I had to stop reading. Sager‘s storytelling is impeccable and the ending was not what I expected. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Congrats @Librarybelle on such a milestone! You‘re also so sweet to be hosting a giveaway. It was hard to pick a book because I want to read everything 😂 But I‘d like The Last Time I Lied because I could use a good thriller - haven‘t read one of those in a few months.

This was so freakin close to being a 5 star read - far better than Final Girls, imho. Points off because I found the ending a little convenient (but still unexpected). Also loved the constant horror movie references - Carrie, Sweeney Todd, Poltergeist, Friday the 13th....! 👻

Not on theme but a great thriller. Highly recommend. And 200+ pages for #ScaryScavengerHunt!

This was exactly what I needed to get out of my reading slump!
It was fast passed and left you wanting to know more with each page turn.

Sager's talent to write form a women‘s point of view is exceptional. He portray the feelings and thoughts so true.
I enjoy the shifting past–present pov; giving you a bit more info with each shift. It just builds the story so perfectly.
I can‘t wait to get my hands on Lock Every Door.

This book was enjoyable. I'm not quite sure it lived up to the hype, but it was fun to read.

In other news, my derpy boy is trying to pull himself up to the top of the messy bookcase. I'm sure there's something up there he wants to knock off, bc that's his thing lately. He has broken 3 custom made mugs recently, which breaks my heart. I cannot leave my tea on a table long enough to go pee. Ugh! #catsoflitsy #littenkitten #adventuresofthegmen

Scochrane26 My previous cat broke several glasses. I had lived w/ my parents briefly, & my cat & dad hung out in fam room, where dad let him knock over his glass. So, then I could never leave a cup unattended. Sorry for your mugs. Good thing he‘s cute. (edited) 3mo
cherinium @Scochrane26 His cuteness is the only good thing going for him lately. 😉 The mugs were a wedding gift from my best friend, so it will probably sting for a bit longer. I haven't told her yet... 😥 3mo

Took some twisty turns that I didn't see coming. Kept me guessing and wondering. Definitely stayed up way too late because I needed to finish it. I'd say those are the signs of a pretty good mystery/thriller.

Another engaging psychological thriller by Riley Sager. I loved it! I‘m a fan of books that take place at summer camps & lakes so I had high expectations going into this. I was captivated by every secret and lie. I finished this book a couple days ago and I‘m still thinking about this story and how I wish it didn‘t have to end. Flawed characters but I still really liked them. Highly recommend.
