The One-Minute Workout
The One-Minute Workout: Science Shows a Way to Get Fit That's Smarter, Faster, Shorter | Martin Gibala, Christopher Shulgan
4 posts
Finally, the solution to the #1 reason we don't exercise: time. Everyone has one minute. A decade ago, Martin Gibala was a young researcher in the field of exercise physiology--with little time to exercise. That critical point in his career launched a passion for high-intensity interval training (HIIT), allowing him to stay in shape with just a few minutes of hard effort. It also prompted Gibala to conduct experiments that helped launch the exploding science of ultralow-volume exercise. Now that he's the worldwide guru of the science of time-efficient workouts, Gibala's first book answers the ultimate question: How low can you go? Gibala's fascinating quest for the answer makes exercise experts of us all. His work demonstrates that very short, intense bursts of exercise may be the most potent form of workout available. Gibala busts myths ("it's only for really fit people"), explains astonishing science ("intensity trumps duration"), lays out time-saving life hacks ("exercise snacking"), and describes the fascinating health-promoting value of HIIT (for preventing and reversing disease). Gibala's latest study found that sedentary people derived the fitness benefits of 150 minutes of traditional endurance training with an interval protocol that involved 80 percent less time and just three minutes of hard exercise per week. Including the eight best basic interval workouts as well as four microworkouts customized for individual needs and preferences (you may not quite want to go all out every time), The One-Minute Workout solves the number-one reason we don't exercise: lack of time. Because everyone has one minute.

Workout of the day done. Carried four 4x4 wooden beams up to my flat on the second floor (3rd floor for people in the US). At 6.30am - delivery guys are the worst sometimes.

I'm still sweating 1.5 hours later.

Megabooks That‘s going to help your goals! (Or did you not set a floor goal this time?) 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 5y
Moony Good workout, but the time.... 😴 5y
eraderneely What are you constructing? *nosy* 5y

CocoReads Wow, good job! 5y
julesG @Megabooks Floor goal for today smashed with the beams. 5y
julesG @Moony And, as always, no phone call ahead. I was in my underwear fresh out of the shower. 5y
julesG @eraderneely My father is installing a step free shower. At the moment my shower looks like a very basic version of what we had at Gladstone's Library. I can't fall into the tub once a week anymore. So, step free shower it'll be. Or rather, a one step up to step free access shower, hence the beams. We can't break open the floor for the plumbing. 5y
Moony @julesG yeah thats fun 🤣 5y
SamanthaMarie That is certainly one way to start your day 😳💪🏻🙌🏻 5y
britt_brooke 💪🏻 I bet you‘ll be sore tomorrow! 5y
julesG @britt_brooke Tomorrow, some time between 7 and 11 am two glass shower walls will arrive. I expect I'll have to carry those upstairs too. Not even the "disabled person" card works with most delivery guys. ? 5y
Crazeedi That's a workout for sure! 5y
Crazeedi @julesG that is a shame, that delivery people don't deliver to your door! The shower sounds perfect. I'm going to have to do this eventually. Nice your dad is helping you!! 5y
eraderneely That‘s impressive that your dad is so skilled. Shitty that you‘re having to carry everything up the stairs though. 5y
britt_brooke @julesG 😩 That‘s so frustrating!! Please be careful. 5y
Bklover Oh be careful! And I didn‘t know the US counted floors differently. Fascinating!!! 5y
julesG @britt_brooke @Bklover Thank you! Will be careful. Just hope the stupid glass walls arrive while I'm at home and I can bribe the delivery guy with coffee/chocolate/bottled water into carrying it up. - Bklover we count ground floor, first, second,... 5y
marleed Oh be careful. I‘m thinking of you today. Fascinating tidbit about floor numbering. I love Litsy comments! 5y
CaroPi Oh that sounds an awful way to accomplish your goals! Delivery guys can be tricky... that sounds like a terrible way to wake up. Good luck with the shower 5y

I outdid myself on week 6 as far as exercise and reading went. I didn‘t make my (many times) readjusted goal of 30 books but I came damn close! And I worked out 6/5 days so yay me! Thanks for a great #bfcr2 @wanderinglynn and many thanks to #TeamFlow @julesG @imabusybee @Reecaspieces @Moony @britt_brooke @LibrarianJen @laurenslibrary for motivation and encouragement. Looking forward to Round 3!

This is one of my favorite motivational quotes because it is so true! I‘ve had a couple of days of bad workouts because.. life, but I‘m back on track today as soon as Geoffrey‘s done laying on my new treadmill 😂 #bfc #bookfitnesschallenge

1. Strength. I sweat too much for cardio lol
2. At home? Depend on what I‘m doing, walking outdoors is preferable anything else gym.
3. Music. I think too much when it quiet and I don‘t need to rehash stupid things I did/said 20 years ago.
4. Walking or biking ... yoga is good too
5. All time favorite workout ... reading until my arms get tired 😆 ... walking is probably my favorite
