Reading Statistics and Research
Reading Statistics and Research | Schuyler W. Huck
9 posts
Employing a non-intimidating writing style that emphasizes concepts rather than formulas, this uniquely welcoming text shows consumers of research how to read, understand, and critically evaluate the statistical information and research results contained in technical research reports. Some key topics covered in this thoroughly revised text include: descriptive statistics, correlation, reliability and validity, estimation, h hypothesis testing, t-tests, ANOVA, ANCOVA, regression, multivariate analysis, factor analysis, and structural equation modeling (SEM). A number of mini-topics related to research and statistics are also discussed, such as the geometric mean, Tau-b correlation, Guttman split-half reliability, sensitivity, specificity, and the Sobel test. Additionally, the sixth edition also includes over 488 new excerpts (tables, figures, passages of text) taken from current research reports. Written specifically for students in non-thesis Master's Programs but also perfectly suitable for students in upper-level undergraduate statistics courses, doctoral students who must conduct dissertation research, and independent researchers who want a better handle on how to decipher and critique statistically-based research reports. Thoroughly updated and revised to reflect advances in the field, Reading Statistics and Research, Sixth Edition gives consumers of research exactly what they are seeking in this caliber of text, that being the knowledge necessary to better understand research and statistics, and the confidence and ability to ultimately decipher and critique research reports on their own.

Playing around with #thestorygraph app today and checking out some of my updated stats... it‘s been an interesting reading journey so far this year! Way more YA than I thought would be in this chart, that‘s for sure 😄 - no shade, it‘s just not something I read a lot of consciously. I think I‘ll keep snapshots throughout the year to see how these change over time. 😃 #storygraph #readingstats

BookmarkTavern So I hadn‘t realized that the app had a stats page, and now I‘m busy scrolling through mine! 😅 4y
Eyelit @ozma.of.oz it‘s great, right?!? 😄 4y
BookmarkTavern I only just started using it a little while ago, so I‘ve only put in my 2021 books. And I‘m gripped with the temptation to just start adding everything! 😂 4y

Eyelit @ozma.of.oz the good reads import is a relatively painless process if you want something faster than just adding yourself (and you‘ve got historical data on GR) 4y
BookmarkTavern Ooo, that is excellent and most tempting news. Do you know if I need to be on a computer for that, or could it work on mobile? 4y
Eyelit That‘s a really good question. I think it might be a desktop only option (tho you can access the desktop version of goodreads via your phones browser). It‘s maybe doable? It‘s def worth a look if you‘ve got a lot of historical data @ozma.of.oz (edited) 4y

I had a lot of fun looking at my reading stats this year! I was able to compare them to 2019, and it was really cool to see how my reading has evolved year after year. https://amysbookreviews.com/2020/12/31/2020-reading-stats/

#SeptemberStats
Books completed: 4
3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ & 1 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Completing four books this month felt like quite an accomplishment compared to my abysmal August when I only managed to read one. September was a bit rocky, but I‘m hopeful that October will be a better month both life-wise & reading-wise!

Asthecroweflies Two of my favorite books there: Bear and the Nightingale and Spinning Silver. LOVED them! 4y
TK-421 @Asthecroweflies I loved them too! Both were great audiobooks but I want to buy print copies so I can reread them over & over 😂 I‘m currently listening to The Girl in the Tower! 4y
Asthecroweflies @TK-421 They really did have great audiobooks! I love how the narrator of the Bear & the Nightingale has a Russian accent! I have all 3 of the books to the Trilogy and Spinning Silver. Have you read Uprooted by Naomi Novik? 4y
TK-421 @Asthecroweflies I loved Uprooted! ❤️Just finished The Girl in the Tower & I‘m starting The Winter of the Witch 4y

8 books completed in June. My favourites were Uprooted & Born a Crime. I also really enjoyed Circe & The Way Home. With the year half over, I just realized I should probably take some time to see how I‘m doing with reading challenges, like #LitsyAtoZ2020. I haven‘t updated my list for months 😳 Thanks to audiobooks, I‘m acing my #GoodreadsChallenge! I‘ve upped my goal twice & I‘m still ahead 😃#JuneStats

Powered_By_Plants Well done 👍 great books. How did you find the highly sensitive person by Elaine Aron . I started it a while back and need to finish it. Could definitely relate to a lot! 😊 4y
TK-421 @Powered_By_Plants Thanks! I didn‘t get as much out of it as I hoped I would. It was interesting & I identify with many traits of the HSP (22/23 on the questionnaire) but I didn‘t always agree with what she had to say—especially when it came to medication or the spiritual side of things—but my cynicism, mental, & physical illnesses influenced my opinions there. I‘m interested in the reframing exercises she introduced so I may reread sometime 4y

I was checking in today and noticed the number and had a good laugh. Normally I am not super into getting this number up but I do enjoy seeing the statistics breakdown. Thanks all for enjoying my reading journey.

I am happy with the number of books I finished in 2018, but I am not particularly happy that I didn‘t read the longer classics I hoped to get to, nor did I read as widely as I would have liked. In #2019, I‘m targeting 48 books, which will include lengthy novels, plays, graphic novels/nonfiction/comic bind ups, and poetry as well as my usual fiction and nonfiction selections. 📚❤️

Here‘s my #2018wrapup — overall it was a good reading year! This is the first year I did any kind of tracking and I really enjoyed getting a deeper look at my habits. Here are my goals for next year:
📚use my kindle for at least 25% of my reads
📚read more nonfiction
📚read through Andrea Gibson‘s backlist
