The Year We Hid Away
The Year We Hid Away: (Ivy Years #2) | Sarina Bowen
14 posts | 28 read | 1 to read
Shes hiding something big. Hes hiding someone small. Scarlet Crowleys life was torn apart the day father was arrested for unspeakable crimes. Now the shock has worn off, but not the horror. Its a safe bet that Scarlet is the only first year at Harkness College who had to sneak past TV news trucks parked on her front lawn just to leave town. But college will be Scarlets fresh start. Clutching a shiny new student ID with a newly minted name on it she leaves it all behind. Even if it means lying to the boy shes falling for. Bridger McCaulley is a varsity hockey star known for being a player both on and off the ice. But a sobering family crisis takes that all away. Protecting his sister means a precarious living arrangement and constant deception. The only bright spot in his week is the few stolen hours he spends with Scarlet. The two form a tentative relationship based on the understanding that some things must always be held back. But when grim developments threaten them both, going it alone just wont work anymore. And if they cant learn to trust one another now, the families who let them down will take everything theyve struggled to keep. Keywords: sports romance, hockey, Ivy League, new adult, college.

I have been using #Libby to work my way through some of Sarina Bowens books because it turns out I seem to love everything she writes, especially this series. This is book two in the Ivy League series. It's a new adult hockey romance series set at a college. It's just amazing. 💛 Now to wait on book three to come in....

Saknicole Book 3 is the best!! 5y
BookKenz @Saknicole Ahhh. I just saw your review and I can not wait to read it! 5y
CarolynM I love Sarina Bowen especially The Ivy Years series and I agree @Saknicole the third one is the best. The Wesmie books are great too. 5y

🏒 My hockey season was cruelly cut short, so I need some literary hockey to keep me going! Sadly though, there just wasn‘t much hockey included. Although one protagonist does get some ice time at the end, the other never touches the ice 😞 Romance was good/hockey lacking. Not the heart- enrapturing book that was The Year We Fell Down, but not a disappointment. Bonus for the cute references to the protagonists of TYWFD #hockey #romantsy

Kimberlone I‘ve only read the first in this series, but is the second book worth it? 5y
Saknicole @Kimberlone I don‘t know if its worth a read necessarily, but the third book is about a gay romance and it looks better than the second. So I‘ll let you know! 5y

When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you (ooo)
I'll take your part, oh, when darkness comes
And pain is all around

Both characters do this for each over.

CarolynM I love the Ivy a Years series❤️ Have you seen the new addition Extra Credit? It doesn't seem to be in the data base, unfortunately 6y

A bit melodramatic for my taste, but still a solid new adult romance! I'm digging this series, and definitely picking up the next one immediately.

CarolynM This is the one I liked the least in this series. I agree it's a bit of a melodrama. I still liked it, though🙂 6y

I needed this somewhat angsty and dramatic romance so bad after my last book😀 I‘m not usually a huge fan of new adult, but I really like this series and this book especially. #romantsy #romance

Daughter-of-words I love this series! Understatement of the Year is my favorite😍 6y
CarolynM I love Sarina Bowen's books. Totally agree with you @Daughter-of-words 6y

I am really surprised at how much I liked this book. I‘ve been in a reading slump when it comes to romance.
Scarlet and Bridger both have secrets. While trying to keep their own secrets they fall in love with each other. Both hockey players who had to quit due to their secrets.

Great romance and I liked you didn‘t have to wait long to know their secrets.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

LOVE this! This is second in The Ivy Years Series, which I am rereading. We meet Bridger in the first book; he has great development across both books. His near-impossible circumstances + student status give him a fascinating story. I'm impressed by how well he handles things in his personal life. Scarlet too, but Bridger is most interesting.

There is excellent community support written in for these characters. And great friendships. #romantsy

Angieville This is my favorite in the series. 7y
Jas16 You are making me want to reread this series. 7y
intothehallofbooks @Angieville I have such a hard time choosing a favorite! I always think it is this one too because I love Bridger and his story so much. But I've just now finished the novella Blonde Date again, and I'm thinking that (today) maybe that one is my favorite. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 7y
intothehallofbooks @Jas16 Do it! I'm really having the best time with these books. I love all of her stories so much. 7y

This unfortunately wasn't quite as special as the first book. The characters were still amazing but they also had their stupid moments and overall there was a lot more drama etc. in this book which I just wasn't a huge fan of.

Good characters, drama but not over the top drama. Solid narrative even if it's double point of view in the first person. I liked both Scarlett and Bridger. Their frienship grew to love and trust. This was more a duo than the first book but the duo is a solid and keeps the reader engaged. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 #romantsy #hockeyromance

Just shy of 1 000 points for Sidney Crosby. Maybe tonight but definitely soon. Good night for hockey and reading a good hockey romance kinda. Rookies are also playing tonight. #readingandlisteningtohockey

LeahBergen Go Flames Go! 🔥🔥🔥 8y
writerlibrarian @LeahBergen Well..... 🐧🐧🐧🐧 for the win. 😏 8y
LeahBergen Probably! 😂 8y

writerlibrarian @LeahBergen If Gaudreau is on it won't be an easy game. The Pens are missing a few good players. 8y
writerlibrarian After 1 and a few penalties, it's nada all around. Rookies scored the first goal. So Leafs are up 1-0 against Dallas. Rookies held on despite a double minor for Kadri and Dallas' PP. 🐧 are down by 1 from a Flames break away goal at the end of the second. With less than 2 min to go, Flames are up by 2. (edited) 8y
writerlibrarian Pens are on the board. Crosby is now at 998 points but Letang is in the sin bin. Leafs are up 2-0 with a second goal from Gardiner. Go rookies! 5 minutes to go, 🐧's rookie tied it at 2. (edited) 8y
writerlibrarian And we're in OT. No goal call. The second Leafs goal was changed to Matthews. Dallas on board with a goal by Seguin. The OT in Pittsburg is nerve raking. OT is over we are in shoot out. Kessel miss. Flames are up. Goal. Crosby miss. Flames are up again. No goal. Letang miss. Flames win. @LeahBergen (edited) 8y
writerlibrarian Rookies are up 3-1. Rookies won. 🏒👍👍👍👍 (edited) 8y
LeahBergen 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 for that game. Yikes! 😳 8y

Tough day today. I had very few spoons ? to get through the day. So... hot bath, hockey game with what Hockey News nicknamed "The Baby Bunch". Myself I like Rookies better. So Toronto are in Brooklyn tonight. It's a nice night for hockey and reading a good hockey romance. #readingandlisteningtohockey

writerlibrarian Islanders score less than 2 minutes in. Rookies fought back. First Soshnikov scored than Matthews added one. Speed and more speed. There was a 5 min of uninterrupted play there. Beautiful to watch. Islanders score with less than 2 min to go to tie the game up. (edited) 8y
Hobbinol Hope tomorrow's better... 8y
writerlibrarian @Hobbinol Thanks. I hope it will be better too. (edited) 8y
writerlibrarian Marner scores and rookies are up again by 1. Leads all rookies in points. Go rookies. Hyman scores short handed but Islanders score right back. Rookies are on PP and no goal. It's 4-3 Leafs. (edited) 8y
writerlibrarian Islanders tie the game with 7 minutes to go. Nylander scores with 2.01 min to go. It's 5-4 rookies. All goals are from rookies tonight. 1.25 to go and NY ties the game. We are going into OT. Probably. Loss in OT. Rookies blew the leads 3 times. You play with fire you get burn. 😞 (edited) 8y

Listen, y'all, I have devoured this entire series this weekend (well, I have the last one to go) and if you haven't read them, what are you waiting for? These books have compelling characters with compelling stories, to the point that I cried and screamed with joy in book three and my roommate made fun of me. 😂totally worth it though because they've brought me such joy on this snowy weekend! #romantsy #NewAdult

Jas16 Love love love Sarina Bowen. 8y
JenicaDawn @Jas16 She pretty much shot up into my list of favorites! I'm not sure how quickly I'll make it through her backlist, but it's definitely happening! 8y
EloisaJames I absolutely love that series--especially the first one, I have to say. It was so much fun to read about a disabled heroine without a shred of self-pity! 8y
JenicaDawn @EloisaJames it really was! And I love the glimpses of Corey in the other books too! 8y
