This book was published in 2019 and received the Tomás Rivera Book Award. This book is about finding home in a new place, and being connected by books, stories, and libraries. This is a touching story that I will definitely use in my classroom!

Oh, I just love this picture book. A story of mother & child immigrating and finding a love of books at the library. Who could not love this? Gorgeous illustrations.

Dreamers By Yuri Morales is a B about the author herself. Its an extraordinary book of the realistic struggles she faces on a journey to find happiness/freedom. As a First-generation American, this story really spoke to me because of how I can relate it to my family. This book is about a young mother and her child who leave Mexico in hopes to find better opportunities in a new place. She then finds a public library that opens a new world for her.

I would use this book to represent the students in my classroom who have moved to a different place or know what it feels like to start over completely.

In this autobiography, Yuyi Morales shares her story of leaving her home and moving to the U.S. with her son. The text is very simple for children to understand and read along: the book offers an after note on why she came to the U.S. as well. The book uses illustrations to convey the story which can be easier for younger children to follow along and even more interesting to see real life pictures at the end!

This gorgeous picture picture for children completed the prompt for children‘s picture book for #NFNov. It follows Morales who came to San Francisco with her son to meet his great-grandfather. This book describes her life as an immigrant and how she and her son discovered the delights of the public library. Now, I want to read all her books ❤️

In honour of World Children‘s Day I simply could not resist this gorgeous book. The story of a mother and her child arriving in a new country and trying to find a place where they fit in. They discover a library that opens their hearts to the wonderful possibilities of the world. The message is positive and uplifting, and the illustrations are divine. The colorful story goes into detail about the struggles the two faced on their quest for freedom and happiness. This book definitely gave me the warm fuzzies. An immigrant woman and her child find themselves in a library. They learn English from books, as well as discovering art and literature. 💖

This #picturebook deserves all the awards, and should have received a Caldecott! This is Yuyi‘s story of immigrating to the United States with her young son, and how public libraries became a beloved place to her when she was trying to navigate life in a new country. The illustrations pay tribute to creators & authors of all backgrounds. It‘s a beautiful book.

“Migrants, You and I”

Th illustrations resemble a collage type of feeling and it really adds to the book because it has a whimsical effect. It almost feels messy and cluttered but it works well with this book and the meaning.

The sound of the poem adds to meaning because it shows grace and strength. I loved the formatting of this text and I could easily connect with the characters.
