Prince of Fools
Prince of Fools | Mark Lawrence
First in a brand new series from the author of The Broken Empire Trilogy. The Red Queen is old but the kings of the Broken Empire dread her like no other. For all her reign she has fought the long war, contested in secret, against the powers that stand behind nations, for higher stakes than land or gold. Her greatest weapon is The Silent Sisterunseen by most and unspoken of by all. The Red Queens grandson, Prince Jalan Kendethdrinker, gambler, seducer of womenis one who can see The Silent Sister. Tenth in line for the throne and content with his role as a minor royal, he pretends that the hideous crone is not there. But war is coming. Witnesses claim an undead army is on the march, and the Red Queen has called on her family to defend the realm. Jal thinks its all a rumornothing that will affect him. But he is wrong

3 - Not a big fan of the boxes. I guess The Dark Tower is a good example of a paperback edition BS done right. If I had to pick a new one, The Cradle series by Will Wight. I think paperback is better for boxed sets
Omnibus - I‘d like the novellas in the following series be bound together in hardback - Murderbot, Joe Ledger, Nightmare Chronicles & of course hardcover manga omnibuses are always nice.

Here are choices for my read! What do y‘all think?? @Littlewolf1 @LitStephanie @Roary47

Littlewolf1 Prince of Fools and Kingdom of Ashes are both on my TBR 2y
Roary47 Kingdom of Ashes looks the most interesting, but I‘m game for anything. 2y
Lauranahe Kingdom of Ashes it is! 2y

LitStephanie @Lauranahe sounds good to me! 2y
Lauranahe I can only find paperback copies online. Is that ok, or should I do a different book? @Littlewolf1 @Roary47 @LitStephanie 2y
Roary47 That‘s fine with me. 😊💛 2y
LitStephanie @Lauranahe paperback is good! If there isn't enough room in the margins, we can use post it notes. 2y
Littlewolf1 @Lauranahe @Roary47 @LitStephanie hey ladies I have to report some bad news. So earlier this week one of the girls from my other team reached out informing me they have not received this months book. This is strange because I mailed it out on the third. I checked the tracking number and it said had been checked into the post office but not yet shipped. On a hunch I checked on the book for this team because it was mailed out the same day. (edited) 2y
Littlewolf1 @Lauranahe @Roary47 @LitStephanie sure enough I got the same response. This has never happened to me ever so I was super confused on what to do. But I reached out to the post office the next day and they told me they had to search through their stuff I will need a few days. Anyways, they reached out to me today and let me know that they couldn‘t find it. That means no one has any idea where the book is at this moment. (edited) 2y
Littlewolf1 @Lauranahe @Roary47 @LitStephanie I am going to be sending a replacement book to Amazon by tomorrow. I can‘t apologize enough, and it‘s going to be really late, but it will be there. I‘ll let you guys know when it‘s been shipped, and again I am so sorry. 2y
Roary47 @Littlewolf1 awww man. That happened to me last round. 😭 Don‘t feel bad it happens. 💛 2y
LitStephanie It's not your fault! Sorry you have to buy another book. I do not have a book currently, not sure who was supposed to be shipping to me this month. 🤷 2y
Lauranahe I don‘t have a book either this month. I had 2 last month, and I sent them both out to @Littlewolf1 , who was then to give one of them to @Roary47 . This kind of thing happens, and it‘s all good. If we take an extra month or two to get all the books rotated, I‘m totally fine with that! 2y
Roary47 @Lauranahe I currently have child thief which I was suppose to have and will get to you next month. @Littlewolf1 I don‘t think was finished with the one I haven‘t read. @LitStephanie I agree it wasn‘t anyones fault it happens. If mine was lost I‘m kinda glad 😅 (edited) 2y
Littlewolf1 @LitStephanie please be on the lookout. I sent the next book out to you today by UPS. 2y
LitStephanie @Littlewolf1 ok, thank you! 2y

I absolutely loved The Broken Empire trilogy, and The Red Queen‘s War is set in the same world and timeline, but with different characters. I like Prince Jalan enough, but Mark Lawrence might have spoiled all anti-heroes for me, after Prince Jorg. But I still liked this book! The bromance between Jalan and Snorri is fun to read. I look forward to the next book in the series. 🗡🗡🗡🗡

I am posting one book a day from my extensive to be read collection. No description and no reason why I got these books. Some are really old and some are new; there are quite a few. Join the fun!

This is day 4.

(I forgot to post yesterday so I'm just going to do two today instead starting over).

🎧 Prince Jalan is 10th in line for the throne. He‘s a drinker, gambler, seducer of women, cowardly to the bone, gloriously happy as-is & sarcastic AF! After escaping a death-trap in the most hilarious of ways his fate‘s accidentally magically connected with a fierce Viking (think Thor) named Snorri who drags them north to undo the spell & reconnect with his family. They come across great danger & loose women & the laughs never cease. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

Although I loved The Broken Empire, I think I love this trilogy a little more. Set in the same world and just as dark, this trilogy has a lot more humour and snark. #20series20days @Andrew65

TrishB Weird, I think this is my least fave of his trilogies! 4y

I‘ve always been unsure of how I feel about anti-hero characters, but so far I‘m intrigued enough by Jal, and loving the writing, to keep going and find out!

So... just got this trilogy. Super excited about it! One of the books is matte and two are shiny. That's going to irk me forever lol.

CoffeeCatsBooks I know what you mean 5 of my Jane Austen annotated editions have matte covers and the 6th is shiny, why?! 7y
BrainyHeroine They also moved the logo on one. Don't they know book lovers notice this crap!!! Lol 7y

I have a love/hate relationship with this book. The plot is compelling and Snorri is fantastic as a character. But I could not stand the narrator Jalan. His cowardice and lack of redemption made this a much harder read than I expected. It's not a bad book but I would have enjoyed it much better had Snorri been our narrator over Jalan. The jury is still out on whether or not I will continue with this series.

I honestly never expected to loved this as much as I did. This is Grim Dark fantasy at its best! Prince Jal is the epitome of an anti hero but not in such a way that one can't connect with him. I had so many LOL moments. I really love his internal dialogue and there's enough blood and gore to satisfy my bloodthirst for sure.

I have a feeling this may not need an alternative beginning for murders to occur. Just discovered this thing called the #grimdark genre - I know, behind the times. #andthenthemurdersbegan #alternativebeginnings

Holiday reads! Please excuse my general grubbiness back packing does not equate with clean! I heard good things about this book but I'm half way through and I've yet to find any of it really interesting. Feels like the same old dickish male protagonist going on a journey :/ anyone read it and can tell me if it's worth finishing?

TrishB I prefer his other trilogy - I didn't really like the MC as much in this. If you don't like him now you probably won't. 7y
Dogearedcopy I loved this book and devoured it on an all-night reading binge! I would say wait for the surprise (about 2/3 of the way through); and if by then you're still like "whatever," bail ? 7y

TheLondonBookworm @TrishB Yeah I think I meant to get that trilogy but mixed up the titles! He is just a bit of an infuriating man haha I've been reading about too many of them lately! 7y
TheLondonBookworm @Dogearedcopy haha okay I'll persevere a little while longer! I think maybe I've read too many of a similar genre recently - might need to change it up! 7y
TheLondonBookworm @River_Voice 😂😂😂 thanks! It's definitely a thing in fantasy I swear 7y

If you have read and liked the Broken Empire trilogy, then you will enjoy this as well. For those who have not, Jalan is the epitome of an anti-hero, so if that appeals to you, you should like this.

"Sometimes it takes a liar, a cheat and a coward to be a hero!"
That was everything Jalan Kendeth was, a liar, a cheat and a coward. Grandson of the Red Queen, tenth in line for the throne of the Red March, by the strange event gets magicaly binded with Snorri, a fearful Viking. This is the first book of the Red Queen's War trilogy and I think Jalan has yet to prove himself as a hero!?
