This the Empire Strikes Back of the series- definitely need to read the first one as characters and motivations grew out of it. This is more from the baby Trickster heading to full on vengeance mode with the best of intentions. Such a fun read!

The more I read of this series, the more I love it. When I originally picked this series up, I was expecting more of a traditional type of fantasy. I absolutely love the take this author took on fantasy and combined modern life and culture with the mythology. The themes of coming of age and finding your identity are so well done and very relatable. The writing is very modern to me and it‘s just like a slice of life with fantasy elements thrown in
I thought the first book in the trilogy was amazing until I read this one. Now I realize that yeah, it was pretty good but the second blew it out of the water.
This was incredible - I loved the writing & the humour (when Jared tells his mom to paint with all the colours of the wind?! 🤣) and nearly every character. There were still some dark moments but generally, this was much more uplifting. I‘m almost nervous for the final book.
#2 in the series is great. The characters are pretty awesome. One of my favorites, Bathrobe, did I mention Bathrobe is a ghost that tutors physics.
This book had more of the fantasy and supernatural elements to it than the first book and I was so here for it! I absolutely loved this book! It ended on a major cliffhanger, so now I really want to know what happens in the third book.
I read Son of a Trickster through Libby in March and wanted to continue the series. My library doesn't have this book available in digital or book format, they only have books 1 & 3 of the series. I have done interlibrary loans before but couldn't find the form online. I have a friend who's a librarian in another city near me and I asked her about it. So she checked her library. Same thing there. So she did an interlibrary loan for me. 💜
!!!!! Love Jared, love this world
I love this series and the little touch of magic and myth. I love how she incorporates Native American culture and she writes with a realism and wit that is completely her own. Will be picking up the final book in the trilogy!
1. This book gets better and better. I‘m so into the ghosts.
2. This Everything Bagel doughnut made a durned good lunch.
3. I ate it while I read a scene where Jared heads to his job at a doughnut shop. Synchronicity!
I‘m so glad I bailed on the not-bad-but-not-great MG fantasy I started this morning and grabbed TRICKSTER DRIFT instead. I‘m 80 pages in and loving it.
Loved it! She has such a real voice. I‘m so into Jared‘s story - all his allies and enemies. Excited for the final book!
I thoroughly enjoyed being back with Jared, and reveling in Robinson's world building and delightfully dark wit. This, the second in her Trickster trilogy, carried on the momentum built in the first and deepened the exploration of family, inheritance, and personal choice. I found it to be a more evenly paced read, and I loved some of the new characters introduced. Can't wait for part three.
Thanks @TheAromaofBooks - this was my #bookspin for Feb!
Introducing my newest reading buddy! Sprocket arrived a week ago from Korea, and is the sweetest shaggy pup ever. It's nice to have a dog in the house again 🐶

Baby's napping, hubby is picking up the boys from school, and I get a quiet moment with a cup of tea and my #BookSpin pick. So far I'm enjoying being back with Jared. If this keeps up, I just might end up liking this one even more than Son of a Trickster!
Trickster Drift is my February #Bookspin selection, and if I have time I'm going to try for the #DoubleSpin with Bookshop on the Corner!

Oh my gosh, I enjoyed this book as much as Son Of A Trickster. Eden Robinson is a master at quirky, witty, and the supernatural. #readthenorth #recommend #EdenRobinson
I haven‘t yet reviewed all of this month‘s fantastic 5-star reads. That‘s my project for today. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ghosts and shapeshifters and psychopaths, oh my! Second in a trilogy, this held me enthralled. Jared is the son of Trickster—Wee‘git—and a powerful Heiltsuk witch. Will he ever step into his magical potential? #Indigenousbooks #Canadianauthor
The continent of North America rides on a giant shell called a tectonic plate, one of the great slabs of mantle and crust separating all living things from the earth‘s molten core. The speed at which the North American plate crawls across the planet makes glaciers seem like rabbits on Red Bull.
In the grand multiverse, there is a world where dolphins evolved into land-dwelling, upright, bipedal beings. Their cities are dimly lit. Because their buildings are designed to be acoustically pleasing rather than eye candy, their skyscrapers are fluted and curved, shot through with holes and tunnels to catch the wind, the sounds of traffic and the crowds, turning everything into song.
This is an interesting and wacky follow-up to Son of a Trickster. 17 yr old Jared has moved to Vancouver to finish school and continue to work on his sobriety. He is also dealing with ghosts, shape-shifting relatives, a witchy mom and his own lineage as the child of a trickster. This book is quite a romp that weaves gritty real life stuff with supernatural elements seamlessly.
Eden Robinson was such a lovely, joyful person and Joshua Whitehead was a great choice to interview her!
This morning we saw Eden Robinson, Patrick DeWitt and Lisa Moore. Advice to wannabe writers: READ. Patrick didn‘t know about creative writing courses, so the library was his education. Lisa attended the first creative writing course ever offered at Memorial U in Newfoundland; she & her classmates still meet regularly to share their work, 30 years later. Eden comes from a family of readers; it‘s not a great leap from reading to writing. #VWF2018
