The explosive, highly anticipated conclusion to the epic Cartel trilogy from the New York Times bestselling author of The ForceWhat do you do when there are no borders? When the lines you thought existed simply vanish? How do you plant your feet to make a stand when you no longer know what side you're on?The war has come home. For over forty years, Art Keller has been on the front lines of America's longest conflict: The War on Drugs. His obsession to defeat the world's most powerful, wealthy, and lethal kingpin―the godfather of the Sinaloa Cartel, Adn Barrera―has left him bloody and scarred, cost him the people he loves, even taken a piece of his soul. Now Keller is elevated to the highest ranks of the DEA, only to find that in destroying one monster he has created thirty more that are wreaking even more chaos and suffering in his beloved Mexico. But not just there.Barrera's final legacy is the heroin epidemic scourging America. Throwing himself into the gap to stem the deadly flow, Keller finds himself surrounded by enemies―men who want to kill him, politicians who want to destroy him, and worse, the unimaginable―an incoming administration that's in bed with the very drug traffickers that Keller is trying to bring down.Art Keller is at war with not only the cartels, but with his own government. And the long fight has taught him more than he ever imagined. Now, he learns the final lesson―there are no borders. In a story that moves from deserts south of the border to Wall Street, from the slums of Guatemala to the marbled corridors of Washington, D.C., Winslow follows a new generation of narcos, the cops who fight them, the street traffickers, the addicts, the politicians, money-launderers, real-estate moguls, and mere children fleeing the violence for the chance of a life in a new country. A shattering tale of vengeance, violence, corruption and justice, this last novel in Don Winslow's magnificent, award-winning, internationally bestselling trilogy is packed with unforgettable, drawn-from-the-headlines scenes. Shocking in its brutality, raw in its humanity, The Border is an unflinching portrait of modern America, a story of--and for--our time.

Author Don Winslow famously doesn‘t rate the film Sicario. Only a writer who covers the same subject, ramped up to 11, in a decades spanning, behemoth of a trilogy (of which the Border is the final instalment) could legitimately criticise that movie. This is page-turning action and political machinations of a supreme level but be warned, it is a violent and harrowing story about the Mexican Drug cartels, their victims and adversaries.

The finale of the incredible feat of writing which chronicles the war on the drug cartels from the 70s to 2017 through the story of DEA operative Art Keller was traumatic, horrifying, but totally compelling. I put it down exhausted by the dreadful depiction of inhumanity as Winslow does not shy away from this but also tells tales the victims of the drug war from children, and addicts to journalist and the populace of Mexico. Brilliant writing.

Enjoyed The Border by Don Winslow. He is a very entertaining writer and with this book being over 900 pages it didnt get stale or boring. This is the 3rd book of the trilogy. The Power Of the Dog, Cartel and The Border. While the book did get a little political in the war on drugs and you cant help but assume that Dennison (Newly elected president) in the book is a jab at our current president. Overall this is a pick .

Winslow brings his War on Drugs trilogy to a magnificent conclusion. I finished this and feel like starting the whole thing over again, and I can't really praise a book higher.

Day 7 of #adventrecommends

Another favorite from 2019. This is the last in a trilogy that began with “The Power of the Dog” and continues with “The Cartel.”

vivastory I can't wait to read this. Cartel was one of my favorites of the year. 5y

Went to sell book at Half Priced Books and I spent all the money (and more - what can you buy there for $3.50) on this book. I wasn‘t going to but it‘s signed! 🤗

This trilogy, especially the final book, The Border, couldn‘t come closer to being a nonfiction book. I not only love Don Winslow‘s writing, he‘s incredibly knowledgeable about the cartel, our drug war, and dishonorable politicians. Amazing book! 5🌟 #ReadingUSA2019 #RhodeIsland (author from)

Christine Love him, and this book! And I didn‘t know he was from RI! He lives in my neck of the woods (San Diego) now, I think. 5y
NatalieR @Christine Yes. According to Goodreads, he lives in SD! Lucky you!! Born in NYC, raised in RI. 5y

Christine He supposedly sometimes hangs out in dive bars in a coastal town north of SD. My husband often surfs up there, and every time I‘m like “Did you see Don Winslow?!?” 😆 5y
NatalieR @Christine That‘s awesome! I hope he gets to see him someday! 😎 5y

Me, reading this book (the last in a trilogy): “Please, oh please don‘t kill off that character .... AHHH! WHY did you kill off THAT character??? ... oh, please let there be justice for that action ... oh, why do bad things always happen to the good people? Why don‘t the bad people get what they deserve? Why is this book so exactly like real life???”

Should come with a warning label: “Buckle up for the inevitable emotional roller coaster.”

Theaelizabet Ha! My husband is reading this right now and can‘t put it down! 5y
Amiable @Theaelizabet It‘s sooo good! I had 32 pages left tonight and I had to put it down to go to my yoga class—I debated skipping class to finish! And then I thought about the book the whole time. 😀 5y

If there‘s anything that can distract me from the view during my daily train commute along the Connecticut shoreline, it‘s a book by Don Winslow. Especially the last one in a trilogy.

andrew61 Brilliant, looking forward to your comments, i plan to start the cartel soon after father Christmas left it for me this year. 5y
Theaelizabet My husband is currently addicted to Don Winslow. 5y

andrew61 @Amiable yes i loved it so the cartel i asked my wife to buy me for Christmas 🎄 ☺ p.s it reminded me a lot of the film sicario which if you haven't seen id recommend. 5y
Amiable @andrew61 I have not seen it, no! I will have to check it out. Thanks! I'm kind of surprised that they haven't made a movie out of “The Cartel“ yet. Maybe they will now that he is supposedly finished with the series? (edited) 5y

First: I despised the misogyny and violence against women in this book. 🤢 No matter how realistic, there was just so soul-crushingly much of it. But this ends a series that I‘ve buddy-read/road trip-audiobooked with my husband over the years - precious bc he‘s not a big reader. And Don Winslow is local to us here in San Diego, and an awfully good writer. This was ripped from all sorts of headlines, political in a way that I loved, and so good.

MrBook Great review! 6y

This is the final book in this trilogy- and it is the best of the three. I couldn‘t put it down. Some characters from The Power of the Dog make a comeback appearance here and it really connected the whole story together. This trilogy is crime writing at its finest. Also I just read that FX has purchased the rights to make these books into a TV series and i am HYPED!
Read this series immediately!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Christine So cool that you think it‘s the best of the series...now I‘m even more excited! 6y

Congrats on hitting 100K, @Mitch ! The last book in Don Winslow‘s trilogy that began with “The Power of the Dog” and continued with “The Cartel” just came out this week —perfect timing for me to #completetheseries! 😀

Mitch Cool, I haven‘t read that...👍🏼 6y
Amiable @Mitch Oh, it‘s excellent. Brutal, violent and unflinching—but so well done. I saw an interview with Don Winslow about how he did his research for the series to make it as accurate as possible (given that it‘s fiction) —it made me appreciate the books even more. 6y
