Verity | Colleen Hoover

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Daaang. I read this in print a few years ago, and all I could vividly recall were the teeth marks and a couple other details that are too spoiler-ish to mention. A recent IRL #bookclub selection, I #reread on audio. Holy hell. I didn‘t remember it being SO open-door graphic. I still enjoyed the wild story, but kept reiterating to my #CoHo noob friends that her other books are NOT like this. Majority of book club were not fans. 🙈

britt_brooke @Cinfhen I know you don‘t like Hoover‘s books, but tagging you out of habit! 😄 2mo
CBee Without Merit is the book that introduced me to CoHo - that and Verity are probably my favorites 😂 Then again I‘ve only read three 😂 2mo
CallMeIshmael So my college freshman daughter got really into Hoover and I got her this one and she read it, fast forward she‘s at college and my 65 year old mother in law who lives with us found it lying around and read it in one sitting and when finished she looked like she had seen a ghost all she could talk about was the graphic depictions lol. I may have to give it a shot 2mo

Cinfhen I really disliked this book!!! Ugh!! This was my second by her & my last!! #SoManyBooksSoLittleTime 2mo
Cinfhen Glad tagging me has become second nature 😘😘 2mo
britt_brooke @CBee I enjoy most of her books! They‘re usually pretty cheesy and dramatic, but always page turners. 2mo
britt_brooke @Cinfhen 😆 Can‘t love - or even mildly like - them all. 2mo
britt_brooke @CallMeIshmael Poor lady; she was totally traumatized. 😂😅 If you ever read it, I want to know what you think! 2mo
Cinfhen Truth 🙌🏻 2mo
CBee @CallMeIshmael that‘s hilarious 😂 It can be rather shocking if you don‘t expect it 😂 2mo
CBee @britt_brooke same! She‘s a great writer! 2mo

I was reading the tagged book today and came across this… so it made me wonder how many people HAVE to finish books and how many people are ok with not finishing?

I‘m finally out of the mindset that I HAVE to finish a book! If I‘m not connecting it‘s ok! There are too many books waiting for me on my shelf!

Play📚 tag me 📚 tag friends

AprilMae It really depends on how far in I am. If it's early on and I just can't, I'll DNF it, if I have like 1/4 or less I just power through cause why not? Lol 3mo
PatriciaU Like Gracie, I‘m not wasting time on a book that isn‘t doing it for me. There are too many good things to read! 3mo
marleed I like the vast majority of what I select to read so I typically finish even the books I don‘t like because I‘m curious about what makes me not like it. When I bail on a book it‘s because I found it offensive vs educational, enlightening, or thought provoking. 3mo
See All 18 Comments
DinoMom I have to finish!! There has maybe only 3 or 4 books in life that i DNF. 3mo
Deblovestoread It took years before I understood that not every book is meant for me and that is ok. 3mo
ShelleyBooksie I used to always have to finish. Something switched in my brain a few years ago and now if I book doesn't interest me after a few chapters it gets put down. Some (like Crawdads) I revisit later and love! But most I don't give a second chance. 3mo
TrishB Life‘s too short! I don‘t finish if I‘m not enjoying. 3mo
BkClubCare It‘s tough, oh-so-tough! To give up on a book that isn‘t quite working. I let it go and maybe? Just maybe, I will come back to it at the right time and mood. It‘s OK. 3mo
BkClubCare Also, I really enjoyed this book you have tagged! I did the audiobook 👍 3mo
ElizaMarie I used to HAVE TO finish books. Now it‘s more of a toss up between DNF or put them in a “not the right time for me” books and I try again later. (edited) 3mo
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick If I put a book down and can only trash talk it or don't care what happens to anyone, I DNF it. I have way too many books to bother. Sometimes it feels slow or I'm not ready to give up on the story entirely, so I pause it. Set it aside & try again a few months later. 3mo
bthegood I am like @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick and @ElizaMarie - sometimes I put the book back on my TBR list - and I do not feel a need to finish a book I don't enjoy - I don't think the book cares either 😅 3mo
StayCurious I won‘t finish a book if it‘s not keeping my attention but sometimes I put that book on my for later shelf. If my mood changes the book might work for me. I used to think I had to finish everything and read what other people were raving about. Now, not so much. 3mo
Mitch Oh! I‘m one of those that just has to finish! 3mo
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Mitch really?! I used to feel that way! 3mo
rubyslippersreads It‘s hard for me not to finish a book, but I‘m trying to get better about it, because #somanybookssolittletime. 3mo

#weeklyforecast and #20in4

For now I‘m hibernating the other two books I was hoping to finish this month, as they just aren‘t holding my attention.

Town of Babylon had a slow start but I‘m enjoying it now at 65 pages in. Nightcrawling on audio is excellent so far!

I‘ve got to get to Ever Green, it‘s due back at the library this week! Dear Justyce is for #AuthorAMonth and I‘ve been holding onto Real Queer for my topics bookclub- September is ⬇️

Soubhiville Short story and/or essay collections. Looking forward to all of these! 3mo
Cinfhen Looking good 😊 I had to hibernate a book this week too🐻#SoManyBooksSoLittleTime 3mo

Jane Eyre will be our September/October book by another female author, and autumn is a perfect time for this amazing book.❤️

We had 3 offers to host/lead— @Graciouswarriorprincess @i.besteph and @BarkingMadRun I‘m a firm believer in the more the merrier when it comes to daily posts for these readalongs, but will be happy however you decide to do it!

Chapter-a-day will start 9/1, and I‘ve tagged those who expressed interest.

BarkingMadRead Since I‘m leading the other one, if the other two ladies want to share the duty, that‘s fine with me! I‘m also up for taking a turn if they need me! 3mo
ErinSueMreads I want to join in on this one! I don't know that I'll be able to post every day but most days I can! I have had this on my tbr forever 3mo

Maggie4483 I haven't participated in this group before, and I know I'm late to the party, but Jane Eyre is my favorite book, and I'd love to join. ❤❤❤ Could I be added to the tag list?
I think I'd also like to join in on Northanger Abbey in October.

Cinfhen I‘m tempted to read it again but this time on audio / have any of you tried the audiobook @erzascarletbookgasm @Megabooks @kspenmoll @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @BarbaraBB @Kdgordon88 ??? 4mo

I‘m afraid I‘m bailing. This started off with promice. I was enjoying the different relationships and where they might go… but then the content went more and more out of my reach, and I felt lost in it all. I think it‘s a marmite book. I look forward to the discussion, maybe I will be enlightened and decide to give it another go. ⛺️ #CampLitsy

TrishB I bailed on the first one and I admit I haven‘t started this yet! 4mo
Cathythoughts @TrishB I don‘t know if this one will be for you either Trish 🤔 I‘ll be interested to see how you get on with it. (edited) 4mo
Cinfhen I bailed on the first one too and decided I wasn‘t going to even attempt this one 🤷🏼‍♀️#SoManyBooksSoLittleTime (edited) 4mo

BarbaraBB I am sorry to miss you in #CampLitsy but I agree this is a Marmite book 😀 4mo
Cathythoughts @Cinfhen Yes ! So many books , hopefully the next one will work out better. 👍🏻❤️ 4mo
Cathythoughts @BarbaraBB Thanks Barbara, I felt bad bailing , but it wasn‘t making any sense to me 🤷🏼‍♀️. 4mo
Megabooks Sorry you won‘t be joining the discussion but def agree re: marmite! Great thought! 💜💜 4mo
Cathythoughts @Megabooks Thanks X ♥️ 4mo
Tamra 😆 What a great descriptive - marmite book! Though I‘ve never had it, I understand it is one of those love/hate flavors. 4mo
rockpools I‘m admitting this isn‘t for me either. It‘s heading back to the library today, rather than hanging around guilt-tripping me! 4mo

VERY slow going!!! The buildup is dragging- if not for a review, I would probably set this aside for now 🤷🏼‍♀️ #SoManyBooksSoLittleTime

TrishB I gave up on this author a couple of books ago, just wasn‘t doing it for me. 4mo
KarenUK Oh no! She‘s hit or miss for me. I was hoping this was a good one. I have an arc to review too 😕 4mo
Cinfhen It‘s slowly improving @TrishB @KarenUK but not enough to stay fully engaged 😖it‘s also on the longer side - 4mo

MicheleinPhilly @TrishB Same. I gave her 2 chances and then crossed her off my list. 4mo
Cinfhen That was probably a wise move @MicheleinPhilly 👍🏻😉 4mo
MyNamesParadise This is good to know! It will come in for me at the library soon. 4mo
Cinfhen Are you generally a fan of Ruth Ware @MyNamesParadise ?? Because this book feels very much like all her others, I will say the audio narration by Imogen Church is very good!!! 4mo
MyNamesParadise @Cinfhen I loved In a Dark Dark Wood but that‘s been years ago now. I have a couple of her others but haven‘t read them. I‘ll just have to see if I connect with it when it comes in. Thanks for the heads up about the audio! 4mo
TrishB @MicheleinPhilly think I did 3! But same. 4mo

The Other Bennet Sister | Janice Hadlow

#Pemberlittens in Ch.5 and 6 Mary discovers joy in reading and learning but soon realizes she may need glasses to continue her newfound passion - easier said than done in Mrs.Bennet‘s household! Thank goodness for Mr. Bennet in this case.

jenniferw88 🤣🤣🤣 I have an eye test in a few weeks' time and the oculist has a sing-song voice - bettER or worse? 9mo
KristiAhlers Man if I don‘t have my reading glasses on it‘s not pretty! 🤣 9mo
AllDebooks This version of Mary is making me really unsettled. She's a shadow in the Bennet household. I know she's not a main character in the original text, but still. I thought it a real shame that she was ignored by Mr Bennet in his library. She would really flourish with a little guidance and support to nurture her new found love of learning and natural curiosity. Not to mention actual conversation. 9mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig @AllDebooks absolutely she would have flourished with a little guidance. 9mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig Not rereading because #somanybookssolittletime but following along w/ discussions. This is when book grabbed me. Went back & looked through my Facebook posts & found this: "As someone who has worn glasses since she was 8 years and reads, I've never hated a fictional character more: "The oculist says she needs spectacles to read, but why, I might ask, does she need to read so many books?” - Mrs Bennet 9mo
mollyrotondo Mrs Bennet borders on being abusive toward Mary. She takes so much away from Mary. No learning. No reading. Your bad at sewing. You are too ugly and glasses will make you uglier so be blind instead. She‘s disgusting. I never really found her to be this despicable in P&P. Hadlow must have really hated her when she read P&P. 9mo
ElizaMarie Ugh this made me so mad at Mrs. Bennet. Poor baby just wants to see!!! 9mo
DebinHawaii @mollyrotondo She is so abusive & Mr. Bennet is so annoying with his neglect.😡 9mo

Cherish Farrah: A Novel | Bethany C. Morrow
post image

Eh. This #SocialHorror book was a slow build, but even with the interesting ending, I‘m still not sure it was worth the effort.

Farrah always tries to stay a step ahead of everyone, especially her mother and her best friend Cherish. When her once wealthy parents lose their home, she fights to live with even more wealthy Cherish‘s family. But when a series of “accidents” befall her, she slowly questions if everyone is who they seem. 3⭐️ #pop22

BarbaraBB Your review makes it sound good actually 😂 9mo
squirrelbrain Oh dear, sorry it was a bit meh…. I‘ll unstack it! 9mo
Cinfhen Agree with @BarbaraBB but I‘ll trust your instincts and hold off on this one for now. #SoManyBooksSoLittleTime 💜 9mo
See All 6 Comments
Megabooks @BarbaraBB @squirrelbrain @Cinfhen yeah, I think it was a bit of finding Farrah very annoying and that being a big deal because of the slow pace. Think The Other Black Girl but with teenagers. Maybe it‘s a thing now?? (edited) 9mo
BarbaraBB I didn‘t like The Other Black Girl either so I know now not to get this one. 9mo
Megabooks @BarbaraBB 👍🏻 9mo
