Salvation Day | Kali Wallace

A lethal virus is awoken on an abandoned spaceship in this incredibly fast-paced, claustrophobic thriller. They thought the ship would be their salvation. Zahra knew every detail of the plan. House of Wisdom, a massive exploration vessel, had been abandoned by the government of Earth a decade earlier, when a deadly virus broke out and killed everyone on board in a matter of hours. But now it could belong to her people if they were bold enough to take it. All they needed to do was kidnap Jaswinder Bhattacharya--the sole survivor of the tragedy, and the last person whose genetic signature would allow entry to the spaceship. But what Zahra and her crew could not know was what waited for them on the ship--a terrifying secret buried by the government. A threat to all of humanity that lay sleeping alongside the orbiting dead. And then they woke it up.

I really dug this space horror about a passenger ship that is hijacked in order to board House of Wisdom, a large abandoned ship. The entire crew of HOW were wiped out a decade, yet two of the people boarding the vessel in the present were children who survived the tragedy. This scratched a very specific itch that I have had for awhile for a good space horror book. I liked how Wallace incorporated the awkwardness of navigating through a low (cont)

vivastory or zero gravity environment, with one truly incredible fight scene. The character's motivations were convincing, if one or two may have fell a bit flat. There was also a scene that made me gag a bit lol. A solid, skin-crawling pick! (edited) 3mo

Space horror!

Viruses in space really know how to amp up that fear.

Ohhh I liked this a lot. Taking place 400 years after the almost collapse of humanity, House of Wisdom is a ship flying in orbit for 10yrs after all but one survivor died of a viral outbreak. There are two children of people who were aboard that ship, representing different factions of life on Earth, that will meet and uncover the truth. The author did a great job adding so many layers to this all while having relevant social commentary. I‘m 👇🏼

Reggie trying to talk around everything because you should just go in. It‘s a great horror, sci-fi, space thriller. (edited) 3y
Michael_Gee Sounds terrifying. Living in a spacecraft = 😱 Stacked! 3y

Reggie @Michael_Gee I‘m really not doing it justice. It gets pretty creepy and there a couple of films that came to mind while reading it because it is cinematic. So good. 3y
Reggie @Bookzombie so I didn‘t sleep well yesterday and knew I would be emotional but when Zahra blows herself up I bawled my eyes out. And I thought mayb I‘m just tired and that‘s why I was emotional. Then today after getting some good sleep I thought about it again and got choked up so maybe it was the book. I really liked it. It reminded me of The Ruins and Aliens. And some other movies. 3y
DivineDiana Once again, your review has made me very curious! Stacked. 3y

#12booksof2020 Day 9

I really enjoyed this sci-fi thriller. It is set in space on an abandoned ship with a deadly virus. There are government secrets and a cult, along with commentary on our society.

Reggie Lol, I already have this stacked and maybe it was from a previous post of yours but everything you mention goes ping ping on my book radar. 3y

I‘m not sure what the point of having 4 cats is when I call one over for a read and cuddle and she lays over there. Dieter, come here! Just wrapping up reading Salvation Day which I am loving! This hits every mark, it‘s a thrill ride!

AlaMich Ha!! I‘ve never had four cats at once but I have had two at once, and I know whereof you speak. 😻😻 5y

Sunday morning, long weekend, family reading time! I‘m having a hard time finishing any books right now. I have so many out from the library, and two new ARCs, and everything is so good! I want to finish them but I also want to read everything. I need more time!

Pretty pleased with my final August stats - read 14 books (10 print, 2 eBooks, & 2 audiobooks), including 2 NetGalley titles and 3 books for MountTBR. I also surpassed my Goodreads goal of 100 titles. 🎉🎉 The tagged book was probably my favorite, but almost all of these were at least 3 star reads. I‘ll take it!

It‘s 2 am. This is a terrifying sci-fi thriller that I didn‘t want to put down even though it freaked me out to no end. Loved it! I‘m at roughly 5 1/2 hours for #24b4Monday and now going to join #Bailey in sleepy land, assuming I don‘t have nightmares (I‘m totally going to have nightmares 😱) #AllTheStars

flying_monkeys Wallace‘s books never disappoint. I wish more people read (and raved about) her work(s). 5y
DGRachel @flying_monkeys I had not heard of her before this book, but I‘ll definitely be looking for other books by her. 5y

#Bailey is a little stressed, and I‘m not sure why, but I‘ll take any excuse to snuggle. 😍 This book is making me nervous, too, so we‘ll pretend I‘m comforting the pup when it‘s really the other way around. 😆 #freezerworthybook #notbedtimereading #iwillsaveyoubailey #ifyouprotectmetoo

Fast paced horror thriller set in space. Told from two POVs and political (?) sides and you're rooting for both.

A spaceship loses all aboard when a rapidly fatal virus strikes. Ten years later, a splinter group decides to claim the derelict ship as their new home. Nothing goes as planned. After a somewhat slow start, this thriller/sci-fi/horror novel races along. I was shocked in places and really enjoyed this read, which also manages to work in a critique of our current society alongside pure entertainment.

RealBooks4ever Sounds good! 💜 5y

Well done speculative #sciencefiction & quite the page turnerThere's a glorious nod to the horror that is infectious parasites under your skin as in Guillermo del Toro's The Strain. And if you like the class disparity & proto molecule threads of James S.A. Corey's The Expanse, this could be your thing. #arcs Thx to #BerkleyPub
