Piracy, blackmail, and meddling gods meet in Dark Shores, a thrilling first novel in a fast-paced new YA fantasy series by USA Today bestselling author Danielle L. Jensen. A PIRATE WITH A WILL OF IRON Teriana is the second mate of the Quincense, a ship beholden to the Goddess of the Seas. Her people are born of the waves, and they alone know how to cross the impassable oceans between East and West. A SOLDIER WITH A SECRET Marcus is the commander of the Thirty-Seventh, the notorious legion that has led the Celendor Empire to conquer the entire East. The legion is his only family, and even they dont know the secret hes been hiding since childhood. A DANGEROUS QUEST When a power-hungry ruler captures Terianas crew and threatens to reveal Marcuss secret unless they help him conquer the unknown West, the two are forced into an unlikely--and unwilling--alliance. They unite for the sake of their families, but both must decide how far they are willing to go, and how much they are willing to sacrifice.

For #April I chose 2 and I finally have some fantasy/mythology my fave genres! #12booksof2021 #4thbookof2021

Too hard to decide between these two that I loved so much!

Dark Shores is everything I wanted in a high seas adventure with strong female characters, fun plot twists and crazy moments!

The Song of Achilles was such a moving and fantastic story. I‘m now a huge fan of Millers between this book and Circe!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I am an absolute sucker for books that have any type of Ancient Rome influence in them, and I enjoyed Jensen‘s version. I liked Marcus‘ character a lot more than I did with Teriana‘s, but my main critique for this book is that I felt that the enemies-to-lovers aspect resolved too quickly towards the end and seemed a bit insta-lovey. In addition, I wish there was a book map since Jensen mentions a bit of geography in the world-building.

This one keeps looking at me from my Hoopla recommendations so I finally broke down and gave it a listen. It's not perfect but I actually enjoyed this much more than I thought I would. Pirates, politics, war, sea monsters....I'm going to keep going with this.

So, first of all I mad at myself. I picked up the book on audiobook and today when I was scrolling through my kindle I found this book in it! I owned it and forgot about it and I was thinking I would have read this physically instead of listening to it on audio. I will be reading book 2 and 3 physically. I liked the cultures of these characters and how they viewed family. #bookstagram #bibliophile #litsy #littens

Well I thought my reading would dip a ton last month but I still somehow managed 39 books with being back in person work.

It‘s been good for my brain to be back and fully vaccinated made me feel a bit more relieved.

Some stand outs this month: Trail of Lightning, Mask of Shadows, Dark Shores, A Little Life and Song of Achilles.

I did do quite a bit of rereading I think at least 5-10 of those are rereads 😂

How was your reading in April?

Well I almost did it 😂 pesky last book staring at me right there! Luckily it wasn‘t one of the draws so I still got my two done ✔️ for #bookspin and #doublespin but still a great month for #bookspinbingo with being back to work and not sure how much time I‘d have for reading. @TheAromaofBooks

I am posting one book per day from my to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new - don‘t judge me I have a lot of books.
Join the fun if you want. This is day 91

Another #bookspinbingo completed. I really enjoyed this. I think it could have been longer and more developed but still I enjoyed this pirate tale. I don‘t think there‘s enough pirate fantasy that is young adult or new adult. This one is in the middle of the two and I really enjoyed. I tried some audio but the narrator sounded like Sally Fields and I just couldn‘t get into! 🤣

Huh! I liked this way more than I thought I would. Most people I've talked to didn't like it but wow! Despite it using tropes I'm not a huge fan of (mc constantly blames everything on themselves when they had no control & Stockholm syndrome-like romance) yet I really loved this!
I'm always interested in taking on the event of colonisation so the plot was a big reason I picked this up.

From the way it started, I didn‘t have a lot of hopes BUT OH BOY am I now excited for the sequel (which I got an ARC for. This was a roller coaster of Roman Empire meets Pirates of the Caribbean and I am here for it!!

Alright, so I finally picked up my copy of Dark Shores, and I loved it. Lately it has been taking me ages to finish one book, but with Dark Shores I was back to my normal pace. Great world-building, likeable characters, action... this was a well written book for sure, and I can't wait for the sequel.

Hmm....maybe the synopsis and the high expectations have tricked me....I expected pirates, sea adventures, treasures and all of the cliches....but mostly i got political trickery,Roman vibes and atmosphere and a liiittle bit generic YA plot🤔
It wasn't bad....bud it wasn't good either unfortunately😖Nonetheless i finished it out of pure curiosity🤦‍♀️😂👌

I completely admit to buying this for the cover. Anything piratey gets me. This really wasn‘t what I was expecting from this book, but it was enjoyable. I enjoyed the nods to Roman society and culture. However there was so much more to be explored about this world and it‘s mythology. I feel like it could have been a much more intense and amazing book. But still a good read.

I enjoyed the word building and the concept of the novel. The characters are complex and dynamic. I was disappointed in the second half of the novel and the ending as it became more about the romance subplot and less about the initial conflict introduced at the start of the story.

I'll admit that the story is really good. The concept and storyline are so interesting! I've yet to read a book about the high seas, pirates and espionage. It's so interesting! The only downfall is it's so character driven. Little to no scene building. No pictures painted with words. Just the characters as a focal point. It would be SO much better if it had more description and world building.
