Redemption is the latest memory man thriller in David Baldaccis Sunday Times bestselling series. FBI consultant Amos Decker discovers that he may have made a fatal mistake when he was a rookie homicide detective. Back in his home town, hes now compelled to discover the truth . . . Decker has returned to Burlington, Ohio, for a special reason. It would have been his daughter Mollys fourteenth birthday. Molly was brutally murdered four years ago in their home, along with his beloved wife, Cassie, and his brother-in-law. But then Decker is tracked down by a man hell never forget: Meryl Hawkins, his first homicide arrest more than twelve years ago. Hawkins has been in prison serving a life sentence but was recently released due to a terminal illness. Decker now finds himself questioning what had seemed watertight evidence at the time maybe hed been a bit too keen to get that conviction? Could Hawkins really be innocent, as hes always claimed? If so, the killer is still out there with a possible connection to a new crime. As the body count rises, and Decker and his former partner Mary Lancaster dig deeper, it looks as though theres a lot more to what they thought was a closed case.

This detective novel is more realistic and had better character development than a lot of this genre. A detective revisits a murder investigation he solved years ago when events occur that suggest the man who went to prison was innocent. A good murder mystery that also explores dealing with loss, coming to grips with your mistakes, and not drowning in the past. Recommend.

Jennaree3 Sounds like it should be added to my list. Thanks ! 3y

Bailedbailed

This is a mediocre murder mystery. See how Baldacci feels the need to explain that Decker called his coworker the night before to set up a meeting, as if the reader might otherwise be confused why two people working on a case together might be speaking in a car together? That kind of writing, coupled with unwitty, stupid confrontations, is why I bailed. The writing style is tell don't show. It's not bad, just not very good.

nanuska_153 "He'd called her and told her that he needed to speak with her but preferred to do it in person" There has to be a better way of writing that alright... I can almost see the red pen of my high school literature teacher circling all the "her" 4y

I signed up for #Allhallowsreadswap hosted by @MaleficentBookDragon but must have messed something up with the google docs as I never received a notice. 😭 So sad watching y'all post about your packages but next year I will be smarter about the technology! To comfort myself, I took advantage of our library's random picks by genre service.

i.besteph I know the feeling 😫 hopefully you‘ll get it sorted out soon 4y
LitStephanie @I.be.Stef thanks, I've never been an early technology adopter, LOL! 4y
MaleficentBookDragon Oh no! I'm so sorry. Want to do a swap with me? 4y
LitStephanie @MaleficentBookDragon that is so sweet of you to offer! No need to create more work for you because I made a mistake. I am definitely going to pay attention and try to sign up correctly for the next one! 4y

Woohoo! This was an excellent "whodunit?" I was guessing right up until the end. This is one of David Baldacci's faster paced books and I really enjoyed it. Picture of my puppy for @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego

🎧 Book 5 in the Memory Man series. One to go but I‘m giving it a break ... Mars makes a reappearance in this one. Decker is faced with the possibility that his first arrest was that of an innocent man. Strange repetition again but not necessarily a bad thing just noticed it. Good story. Well put together. A decent mystery/thriller. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Highly recommend. This is a story of Amos Decker, the man who has a perfect memory. Decker discovers that he accidentally sent an innocent man to jail. The story centers on the strange incidents that follow. Who is in the conspiracy? Loved this story.

I‘ve grown to love the Amos Decker series and this book enhances it!!! He is an imperfect man, almost crippled by grief and guilt. He‘s slowly building a life but his memory won‘t set him completely free. 💜💜💜

Finished m second book during the #24B4Monday #Readathon. Currently on 9 hours 3 minutes.
For some reason I didn‘t enjoy this Amos Decker book as much as the other books in the series. It was still a good read but just felt lacking something. Not helped as his recent main partner didn‘t play as big a part in this book, and I enjoy the interplay between them and as a result it was missing some of its usual humour.. Hopefully back to form in book 6.

gradcat You go! Doing great!! 👍 5y
Andrew65 @gradcat Thanks, poor weather outside has helped! 5y
BeansPage The weather is starting to pick up here. But the wind is still howling pretty hard. Hopefully it'll stay that way (maybe with a little softer wind) 😬 5y

Andrew65 @TheReadingMermaid Still got another 24 hours of Storm Hannah yet, and not peaked yet. 5y
squirrelbrain It‘s a shame you didn‘t enjoy as much as the rest - I loved the first 4, but didn‘t even know this one had been released.... 5y
Andrew65 @squirrelbrain Usually one of my favourite series but just lacking something (for me) this time. Hope you enjoy it when you get to it. 5y
gradcat @Andrew65 Hope it‘s not too terribly bad there...we just got through a round of heavy rain, flash floods & tornadoes (🌪 Yikes!), and luckily came out unscathed. Now it‘s beautiful outside...☀️ 5y
Andrew65 @gradcat No, just high winds and rain, just lasting a long time. Been vet6 wet and windy all day and will be all day tomorrow. 5y
gradcat Hang in there, Andrew, & keep on reading. 😂👍📖 5y
Andrew65 @gradcat Hopefully winds and rain due to ease off in next few hours. 5y

Started listening to the latest book in the Amos Decker Series. This is a really good series, and are great as audiobooks.

"I had everything. A wife who I loved beyond anything I‘d ever felt before. And a daughter who I would have sacrificed anything for. Now I don‘t have either one."

"But you do have memories. Good ones."

"Yeah, I do. But it‘s not the same. Even for someone with a memory like mine. Memories don‘t keep you warm at night. And they don‘t make you laugh, not really.” He paused. “But they can make you cry.”

imitelis Do i have to start from book 1 in order to know what's happening or is it okay if i just go thru this 5th book in the series of amos decker ? 5y
JHSiess @Aashkaar You can pick up anywhere in the series. He provides sufficient context. 5y
imitelis Then i'm gonna directly jump into this one. 5y
