This book had such potential and was a major let down! #madeyoumad #bookmoods @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Eggs
This was not what I expected at all… it sounded super interesting and written by Moyes, got to be a home run right?? Nope… I disliked 90% of this book, I did, however, love the ending!
I am almost 100 pages in and I am finding this book to be sooooo slow!! Please tell me it picks up soon!
It‘s always a good day at work when you open your mail and you have book mail 😁😁
Always have two books on the go, one audio and one paperback...just getting into The Ship of Brides, love Jojo Moyes books 📚
Another great Moyes book! The plot is structured differently compared to other books written by Moyes. For me, I found the beginning slow-going, but I think it was due to the fact that I wasn‘t sure how the story was unfolding. Maybe I was just tired when I started the book? Regardless, a few chapters in and I was invested. I loved the well- developed characters that were revealed in layers.
I really liked this one. Jojo Moyes knows how to write such detail with great characters and a hint of a love story with a happy ending. Great read.
We are big believers in reusing in our family. Books come from charity shops, get passed around, then go back to charity shops. I sometimes read stuff I'm not too fussed about. Actually loved this book! Sad it's finished. Really fascinating story! Full marks JoJo!
I have been looking for Moyes to read recently. This one did a cool POV thing toward the end. Historical fiction about war brides returning to their spouses after wwii.
Although Jojo Moyes has a nice, conversational writing style, I find I just can‘t get into this book. While it‘s based on historical events that could be interesting, the book doesn‘t seem to get going in a way that holds my attention. Alas!
Historical fiction set in 1946 after WWII has ended, when young women are crossing the seas in the thousands en route to the men they had married in wartime. Four women join 650 other brides on a voyage to England aboard the HMS Victoria. Apparently the book was loosely based on real people who made the trip on the real ship. A quick read.
Half way through and it feels like the story is still only setting up to start . . .
Movin' On
Sometimes lighter fare is all I can handle, and I like Jojo Moyes. So I bought all these from Book Outlet (two hours before they sent an email announcing they‘d be awarding 3X points on purchases 😐 — can‘t really complain at their prices though). One of these I‘ll take with me to CA — we‘ll be with my mom for Thanksgiving.
Greatly enjoying my kindle read Jojo Moyes' historical fiction, Ship of Brides.
"The ship has been in contact with London by telephone!--This is a great advance in the communication world and promises great things for the future."
I didn‘t even realize #litsypartyofone was this weekend and I‘m glad I can enjoy it at least tonight. We are half moving on Sunday and it is going to be a chaotic weekend, but tonight I can relax with my books and tea
I got my first look at my new apartment today and I can‘t be more excited. I get my very own reading nook. It‘s small but I know I can turn it in to something great! (Starting Ship of Brides tonight for my family book club)
Not the best Jojo Moyes book I've read before but it had the word bride in it and I've been doing wedding planning today so I thought it was a good one to read in my bubble bath 🛁
Saturday morning. Hoping to finish this book and having a strange (for me) breakfast as an experiment. #bookandtea #bookandfood
Touch for serious reading at home, Ship of brides to make the longer commute (metro closed for 5 weeks this summer) bearable #vendredilecture
A JoJo Moyes book I hadn't heard of is super cheap today. 😀
THIS!!!!!🙌🏻👆🏻 I let my mom borrow this book like two years ago and she still hasn't got all the way through it!!😩😩

What I liked: The historical fiction aspect--I had never heard of such a thing as these war brides, & was fascinated by the journey. Some great plot twists, as well.
What I disliked: The writing was cheesy and overdone, often. That was a huge turnoff. Wayyy overdone metaphor @ end.
Just ok.
⭐️⭐️.5
Light reading for a week in the hotel. Not enjoying the writing as much as Me Before You, but the storyline is engaging.
