Ok I really loved this one great all the way through 🙌🏽📖 😊

Uh so he just change careers??? What the heck happened 😲🤨 I still have questions
Reading on the deck while my mom, @Pamgardens gets ready to attack the new TV Insider with the highlighter. 😂 It‘s finally Spring in Minnesota - currently 77 degrees!
Continuing with my re-listen of this fun series. There‘s a cool interview at the end with Ben and Kobna talking about the books and the accents, answering reader‘s questions
Impending fatherhood, a new job with a tech company, and a mysterious machine designed by Ada Lovelace. Things definitely aren‘t slowing down for Peter Grant.
I‘m not sure what it was, but something about this one didn‘t really click for me. The timeline switched around a lot in the beginning, and there seemed to be less magic than before. Or maybe I was less interested in the tech story. Still enjoyed it, & Kobna‘s skill is unmatched. 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
Peter Grant investigates goings on at an IT start up in London.
I found the first part of this rather confusing due to the frequent flashbacks (even though the timeline is clearly marked in the chapter headings). Once I got past that, however, it was all good fun in the usual way. I'm not a great fan of criminal masterminds/supervillains, so I am a bit concerned that we are being set up for that in future books.
After I was disappointed in the last one, I liked this much better. I wonder if Aaronovitch will start a new plot arc, this felt like a standalone book. Only the IT company bit was too much and had me rolling my eyes at times (I'm a software developer; I don't know if that made it better or worse).
A rainy day off of work seems like a good time to finally dive into this.
So good to be back in this series - another quality outing from Aaronovitch. I loved how many up to date references he managed to fit into this book - there was even a reference to Epstein 😱 I only hope that there will be more involvement from the Rivers and the fae in future books - just love that spread of vibrant characters creating other worldly complications.
I mostly really enjoyed this book as an urban fantasy/ police procedural, performed by the always excellent Kobna Holdbrook-Smith. But l am feeling conflicted about reading books like this now, that have a police officer as a heroic main character (even a Black one, as is Peter Grant) and are by white authors. Even with a Black #audiobook narrator. It would be nice if the novels dealt with or even mentioned police brutality and police racism.
Did some #AudioBaking tonight and made cookies, replacing the chocolate chips with peanut butter m&ms! It was a delicious experiment.
I adore this series! It‘s the only one I both read and listen to straight away when it comes out. (Kobna Holdbrook-Smith‘s performance is resplendent in the audiobooks!) This book was a wonderful 8th addition to the Peter Grant novel series of Rivers of London. And it was a lovely little nod of remembrance of Douglas Adams as well. 💕📚
That delightful moment when you realize a new book in your favorite series came out 5 days ago, and you didn‘t even know! My Tuesday just got so much better!! 😍😍
Also — if you aren‘t reading the #RiversofLondon series, you should be! They‘re magical police procedurals, where a secret branch of the Metropolitan Police Force investigates supernatural crimes in and around London, and they are a hilarious, clever, wonderful series.
From Monday night at Foyles - Ben Aaronovitch talking to Temi Oh about writing, life and Rivers of London. Great fun, very amusing and some nice insights into what next for the series. And I bought her book too.
In this story, Peter‘s role was more about detection than wizardry. There were elements of magic used & characters who also dabbled in magic but the way Peter was going to figure out what he wanted to know was by following clues down a rabbit hole & seeing where it led. Not being able to stay at the Folly, Peter had been staying with Bev & in his moments with her he shows his excitement & nervousness about becoming a father, which is endearing!
Heads up, #RiversOfLondon nerds! Mr. Aaronovitch released the cover and updated release date over in FB and Twitter lands. 😀
Oh. My. Goddesses. New Peter Grant Rivers of London installment coming in November! Apparently it‘s available for pre order. Mr. Aaronovitch posted about it in FB land so sharing for my fellow fans here!
