PREFACE. THE Author of this very practical treatise on Scotch Loch - Fishing desires clearly that it may be of use to all who had it. He does not pretend to have written anything new, but to have attempted to put what he has to say in as readable a form as possible. Everything in the way of the history and habits of fish has been studiously avoided, and technicalities have been used as sparingly as possible. The writing of this book has afforded him pleasure in his leisure moments, and that pleasure would be much increased if he knew that the perusal of it would create any bond of sympathy between himself and the angling community in general. This section is interleaved with blank shects for the readers notes. The Author need hardly say that any suggestions addressed to the case of the publishers, will meet with consideration in a future edition. We do not pretend to write or enlarge upon a new subject. Much has been said and written-and well said and written too on the art of fishing but loch-fishing has been rather looked upon as a second-rate performance, and to dispel this idea is one of the objects for which this present treatise has been written. Far be it from us to say anything against fishing, lawfully practised in any form but many pent up in our large towns will bear us out when me say that, on the whole, a days loch-fishing is the most convenient. One great matter is, that the loch-fisher is depend- ent on nothing but enough wind to curl the water, -and on a large loch it is very seldom that a dead calm prevails all day, -and can make his arrangements for a day, weeks beforehand whereas the stream- fisher is dependent for a good take on the state of the water and however pleasant and easy it may be for one living near the banks of a good trout stream or river, it is quite another matter to arrange for a days river-fishing, if one is looking forward to a holiday at a date some weeks ahead. Providence may favour the expectant angler with a good day, and the water in order but experience has taught most of us that the good days are in the minority, and that, as is the case with our rapid running streams, -such as many of our northern streams are, -the water is either too large or too small, unless, as previously remarked, you live near at hand, and can catch it at its best. A common belief in regard to loch-fishing is, that the tyro and the experienced angler have nearly the same chance in fishing, -the one from the stern and the other from the bow of the same boat. Of all the absurd beliefs as to loch-fishing, this is one of the most absurd. Try it. Give the tyro either end of the boat he likes give him a cast of ally flies he may fancy, or even a cast similar to those which a crack may be using and if he catches one for every three the other has, he may consider himself very lucky. Of course there are lochs where the fish are not abundant, and a beginner may come across as many as an older fisher but we speak of lochs where there are fish to be caught, and where each has a fair chance. Again, it is said that the boatman has as much to do with catching trout in a loch as the angler. Well, we dont deny that. In an untried loch it is necessary to have the guidance of a good boatman but the same argument holds good as to stream-fishing...

Opinions needed! I am finally giving in and getting a kindle for my birthday. (I have always insisted on solid books). But I my eyes want a kindle where I can magnify the text. Is the Kindle Unlimited subscription worth it?⁉️⁉️❓❓

Seekingtardis I would 100% do the free trial first, it depends on what you like to read. There tends to be a lot of one genre and only a little of others. I like a lot of romance so for me I was able to find a lot! 3y
jdiehr There are so many books available for free or highly discounted that I haven't found it necessary to sign up for Kindle Unlimited 3y
Mrs_B I find that by monitoring the daily and monthly deals I have racked up quite a collection of kindle books I need to read all for 99p. 3y

swishandflick I've read some decent stuff on Kindle Unlimited, but the most useful feature for me is the way Kindle can connect with Libby/Overdrive. Hook that baby up to your library card and go crazy. 3y
Amie If you have access to a public library with a good ebook collection then kindle unlimited probably isn't worth the cost 3y
MicrobeMom @Seekingtardis @jdiehr @Mrs_B @swishandflick @Amie thank you all for your opinions. They are greatly appreciated. I am think I will try the 30-day trail and go from there. I do have an excellent library with e-book options. So, I should be able to get what I want through there. Thanks again! ♥️♥️ 3y
AllDebooks I use the Kindle app on my tablet but recently discovered Scribd which I love. It's a monthly subscription service but no extra costs for audiobooks, ebooks, mags and podcasts. Been using that a whole lit more than Kindle lately 3y

Trying to decide on one of these for #Booked2020 #HatOnCover. I guess the Palahniuk is kind of a head covering? 🤷‍♀️ Lol, Not Me would be a reread but I only remember I loved it but nothing beyond that! Anyone have any thoughts? #AskLitsy #Recommendsday #suggestions @cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft @LibrarianRyan @MrBook

1. I like seeing what people are reading, and many of the pictures you guys take are amazing! I‘m not creative at all; mostly what you get from me are pictures of my kindle screen.
2. I‘m honestly not interested in the pet photos (#unpopularopinion, I know! 🤷‍♀️)
3. I saw another comment about a favorites list - that would be nice.
4. Not as often as I used to. I mostly only post when I‘m participating in a challenge.

Pamwurtzler 5. I stopped doing swaps because they were more stressful than fun for me. 5y
Pamwurtzler 6. I‘m trying to cut down on screen time in general but I do love this platform and will try for the 15 minutes a day to participate more! (edited) 5y
Sace I'm crushed by your answer to 2 😂😂😂😂😂 5y
ljuliel Thanks for replying. Great answers. 💕 5y
jillrhudy Ditto on the cats with no books (and wrongly linked to a random book). I post my dog with books! 5y

The question came up as I saw a different Litsy post, but I thought I'd ask for more opinions. For those of you who listen to audio books through library services, do you prefer #Overdrive or #Libby, and what are the good and bad of each? I have only ever used Overdrive, but am curious about Libby. *Photo is part of my home library, because I obviously need more books. 🤷‍♀️

Jennick2004 Wow!!!! 6y
Lcsmcat I find Libby‘s controls require fewer steps, which makes it easy to use in my car. 6y
wanderinglynn I use Libby for the same reasons as @Lcsmcat 6y

CoffeeNBooks I just started using Libby, because it just seems easier to use than Overdrive. 6y
Redwritinghood I use Libby or Hoopla. I prefer the controls and tracking on Libby. 6y
Melissa_J Beautiful! One can never have too many books 😉 6y
whatsthEStorey I prefer Libby to Overdrive. It feels easier to use to me. I like Hoopla as well, but Libby gives you more control over speed-sometimes I just want 1.85x, not 2x- and over the sleep timer setting. 6y
JamieArc I use Libby and just prefer it over Overdrive because of its design. I also use Hoopla when I want a book immediately (no waits on Hoopla, but doesn‘t always have what I want). 6y
goodbyefrancie @Lcsmcat & @wanderinglynn Easier would be helpful. I listen in my car a lot! 6y
Sweetdgabe87 I am jealous of your library 😍😍 6y
RebL Libby. Simple, less glitchy. Has a more intimate feel. 6y
goodbyefrancie @CoffeeNBooks @Redwritinghood @whatsthEStorey @JamieArc @RebL Thanks for the input! Sounds like i need to give Libby a try. 6y
goodbyefrancie @Jennick2004 @Melissa_J @Sweetdgabe87 I love my library. It's my favorite room in the house, very much a detox from my day. 6y
Crystalblu So, Libby actually is overdrive, just made easier. 6y
Book_Gobbler WOWZA! Pardon me while I wipe away the drool due to book cravings stirred by your beauteous library photo! 😃😅😍😍😍😍😘😘😘👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 📚 📚📚📚📚 6y
Rebesta I love your library! 6y
