Riding the Elephant
Riding the Elephant: A Memoir of Altercations, Humiliations, Hallucinations, and Observations | Craig Ferguson
7 posts | 9 read | 7 to read
From the comedian, actor, and former host of The Late Late Show comes an irreverent, lyrical memoir in essays featuring his signature wit. Craig Ferguson has defied the odds his entire life. He has failed when he should have succeeded and succeeded when he should have failed. The fact that he is neither dead nor in a locked facility (at the time of printing) is something of a miracle in itself. In Craigs candid and revealing memoir, readers will get a look into the mind and recollections of the unique and twisted Scottish American who became a national hero for pioneering the worlds first TV robot skeleton sidekick and reviving two dudes in a horse suit dancing as a form of entertainment. In Riding the Elephant, there are some stories that are too graphic for television, too politically incorrect for social media, or too meditative for a stand-up comedy performance. Craig discusses his deep love for his native Scotland, examines his profound psychic change brought on by fatherhood, and looks at aging and mortality with a perspective that he was incapable of as a younger man. Each story is strung together in a colorful tapestry that ultimately reveals a complicated man who has learned to processand even enjoythe unusual trajectory of his life.

🎧 Fun audiobook! A lot about his non-late-night-show life. If you get a chance to listen & like his humor ... recommendation.

“Any of you who have had the luxury of executing a humpty in the land of the rising sun will know what I mean”

😆😆 While listening I had to rewind this. TWICE! The Japanese toilet story ... I can‘t stop laughing! Add a star for this 5 minutes alone! 😆 It sounds like the Japanese have nice public bathrooms?

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Scochrane26 I read one of his books but didn‘t know about this one. I love him. 4y

I'm a Fiction Reader. I like escaping real world problems and immersing myself in worlds like Gail Carriger's Paraverse or AU of Casey Mcquiston's Red, White, & Royal Blue. But every now & again I get in the mood to listen to stories of fascinating people. This month it was mostly musicians and Scotsmen. Autobiographies read by the author add extra level of enjoyment. 📚

The first half of this book has the same topics I heard when I saw Ferguson on his stand up tour. The second half was material new to me, which I enjoyed. Always a fan of his since one of my daughters introduced me to his late night show so many years ago! I still miss Geoff! 💀 #NonfictionNovember

Took a brief break from work to walk over to the library to pick up some holds. I‘m pretty excited about these two books as I really like these two actors/comedians. This will hopefully be some lighter reading than what I consumed most of this month. 😄. #libraryhaul
