"I Heard You Paint Houses"
"I Heard You Paint Houses": Frank "The Irishman" Sheeran & Closing the Case on Jimmy Hoffa | Charles Brandt
14 posts | 16 read | 1 reading | 9 to read
"I Heard you Paint Houses" are the first words Jimmy Hoffa ever spoke to Frank "the Irishman" Sheeran. To paint a house is to kill a man. The paint is the blood that splatters on the walls and floors. In the course of nearly five years of recorded interviews Frank Sheeran confessed to Charles Brandt that he handled more than twenty-five hits for the mob, and for his friend Hoffa. Sheeran learned to kill in the U.S. Army, where he saw an astonishing 411 days of active combat duty in Italy during World War II. After returning home he became a hustler and hit man, working for legendary crime boss Russell Bufalino. Eventually he would rise to a position of such prominence that in a RICO suit then-U.S. Attorney Rudy Giuliani would name him as one of only two non-Italians on a list of 26 top mob figures. When Bufalino ordered Sheeran to kill Hoffa, he did the deed, knowing that if he had refused he would have been killed himself. Sheeran's important and fascinating story includes new information on other famous murders, and provides rare insight to a chapter in American history. Charles Brandt has written a page-turner that is destined to become a true crime classic.

1. August and September seem to be our hottest months. And my big tree shading my house recently had to be cut down. So I'm looking forward to October weather. But I resent that my entire summer was spent in covid conditions.
2. I'm reading a couple of books and slogging through all of them.

Brandt is the author, but to me, he is more of a way for Shereen to get his story out there. From unions, to movies, to hits, to Hoffa, JFK and RFK, I learned a lot about the Mob. Frank Shereen was a good storyteller.

I enjoy mafia history and this book was very interesting as gave history of Jimmy Hoffa too. I wanted to read the book before seeing the movie and really glad I did.

I figured I'd read this before The Irishman comes out. I've always had a fascination with mob movies, but I've never read a mob confessional. I can't fathom, even after reading this, what kind of person could kill a dear friend in cold blood. With Sheeran's confession, Brandt has done an excellent job of illuminating the inner workings of The IBT and the mafia from the 30s to 90s. I couldn't put this one down.

As true crime goes, this is about as good as it gets. Former Bufalino crime family hitman Frank “The Irishman” Sheehan is the man who killed Jimmy Hoffa. But there is a lot more to his extraordinary and infamous life than that. This was a long read but a fun one.

#TimbitTunes #Detroit67 Had to listen to the lyrics for a little inspiration and I found a Jimmy Hoffa reference which made me think about this book which is being made into a Netflix movie starring Pacino & De Niro & directed by Martin Scorsese❣️❣️❣️❣️ (wow, run on sentence) Can‘t wait to see film and read the book. Apparently the budget is already over 150 million dollars ( I‘m sorry, but that‘s insane...you know how many books I could buy😜)

Sweettartlaura What?!?!? That IS crazy! 5y
TrishB Bonkers! 5y
Cathythoughts Pacino & De Niro .... I don‘t really watch Telly ... but I will definitely be watching this ♥️👍🏻 (edited) 5y

Cinfhen It really is disturbing how as citizens of a global world we choose to spend our money @TrishB @Sweettartlaura apparently the producers need to digitally reduce the aging of Pacino & De Niro as the film spans some 40 + years. In the name of “authenticity” they are spending millions of dollars for that technology 🤬🤬🤬but I agree @Cathythoughts it should be brilliant to watch🤩 5y
TrishB The curse of capitalism.....the gamble that it will make much more than that. 5y
Cinfhen You‘re definitely right @TrishB but how does Netflix recoup that kind of money? Do they think more people will subscribe to the service just to see the film?? 5y
TrishB I assumed it was advertising? 🤷‍♀️I think subscriptions must have a ceiling? Especially as a couple of people can use, I‘m pretty sure my kids will be logging onto mine when I‘m no longer here!! 5y
Crazeedi Wow, 3 big names in this production, so I'm thinking that's part of the huge price tag 5y
Cinfhen Hahahaha!!! @TrishB I know about family sharing 😂😂😂 5y
Cinfhen I agree @Crazeedi it‘s such a BIG NAME cast!!! 5y
Bklover @Cinfhen You‘d think they could make them look younger with makeup but those two are definitely getting pretty ancient looking. I didn‘t realize they did the age reduction digitally. Still can‘t believe it costs that much! 5y
Cinfhen Hahahaha @Bklover they are DEFINITELY showing their age 👳🏼‍♀️👳🏼‍♂️ 5y
Kalalalatja Oh, the “wonders” money can buy! I‘ll definitely NOT be buying digital age reduction if I wake up to that kind of money tomorrow 🙄😂 5y
Cinfhen Ha!! @Kalalalatja 😂😂😂 5y

I‘m speechless!! I never thought I‘d see the day my husband (who was too cool to read books) use a headlamp to see his book better. His transformation to book nerd is now complete.
