Skinny Bitch: A No-Nonsense, Tough-Love Guide for Savvy Girls Who Want to Stop Eating Crap and Start Looking Fabulous!
Skinny Bitch: A No-Nonsense, Tough-Love Guide for Savvy Girls Who Want to Stop Eating Crap and Start Looking Fabulous! | Rory Freedman, Kim Barnouin

Not your typical boring diet book, this is a tart-tongued, no-holds-barred wakeup call to all women who want to be thin. With such blunt advice as, "Soda is liquid Satan" and "You are a total moron if you think the Atkins Diet will make you thin," it's a rallying cry for all savvy women to start eating healthy and looking radiant. Unlike standard diet books, it actually makes the reader laugh out loud with its truthful, smart-mouthed revelations. Behind all the attitude, however, there's solid guidance. Skinny Bitch espouses a healthful lifestyle that promotes whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, and encourages women to get excited about feeling "clean and pure and energized."

Well this book was a bit of a trip!

While there were some very worthwhile points made (deplorable conditions in commercial meat/dairy/egg farms, unfathomable conflicts of interest in some federal food/drug oversight bodies, the importance of reading food labels), there were also soooo many cringe-y 😬😬😬 statements like this para that it was a little hard to take seriously.

I mean, given the title I did know what I was in for, but still...

ErinSBecker Yikes indeed!! 4y
TheLibrarian WOW...Mean comments don‘t make most people motivated to eat healthier. 4y
Bookish.SAM @ErinSBecker @TheLibrarian … right!? And to be so flippant about anorexia? This is not a book for young impressionable minds (edited) 4y
dariazeoli I know this book is problematic, but it‘s the one that started me towards veganism when I read it 12 years ago. I‘ve been an ethical vegan for 10.5 years now, so that‘s one good thing that came of it. 4y
Bookish.SAM @dariazeoli …I completely agree with those chapters as hard as they are to read.... and I‘m a fairly well-informed vegetarian. Being a short and eye catching book, if it gets that point across, great! I just worry about some of the more questionable statements... I.e. heathy=skinny... could detract. 4y

Funny and interesting book about nutrition, but a little preachy and a tad unrealistic. For anyone trying to become vegan or eat organic, there is a list of brands and foods in the back that can help you out at the grocery store 👌🏼 I‘m a little more inclined to cut down on meat and dairy now but doubt I️ could sustain an organic vegan diet for any length of time 🤷🏻‍♀️

As a teenager, I really loved #Bitch by Meredith Brooks.

Back in the old days of blogging, I had a website called Diner Bitch.

Nine years ago, I read Skinny Bitch and immediately began phasing animals out of my diet.

I know “bitch” is offensive to many, but it‘s been a big word to me.

I was surprised to find out this book is geared toward #veganism and #animalcruelty.

It was cute, and on the right track... but I'd consider it entry-level when it comes to #nutrition.

There is a very nice recommended reading list at the end. #selfhelp #vegan

arlenefinnigan "Comparison is the thief of joy." What a great quote. 8y

I went vegan seven years ago on Thanksgiving, in large part due to this book. I'm grateful for change makers who speak for those who cannot, and for the ability to live a compassionate life in a time when vegan options are becoming more readily available.

Just started this on recommendation from my aunt. Sooo much scarier than any horror books I've read this year. It is definitely no-nonsense advice on eating and I think my eyes were sweating a bit during the chapter on eating meat and why we shouldn't. Horrifying and yet I can't stop reading it.

You will be a vegetarian for a while and checking every label..... Can be a little on the graphic side.
