One of the most interesting books I‘ve read lately. Especially the parts about the psychology of why people follow cultish groups. It‘s chiefly about linguistics but also about human nature.

Had to drop this one. I‘ve been working through it for literally years and there were too many stories I just didn‘t connect with. A few really good ones but I didn‘t feel like sorting through the last few.

tokorowilliamwallace It sounds interesting. 2y

I was surprisingly disappointed in this one. The premise was so good, but the main character was very annoying, so much of the book was just spent in her head. I can only read so much deliberation on what to do, followed by panic, and back to deliberation before I just need a plot point. I liked the reveal, but after that it became weirdly boring, no more plot twists.

I had come to believe that the ability to evaluate many ideas, many histories, many points of view, was at the heart of what it means to self-create. If I yielded now, I would lose more than an argument. I would lose custody of my own mind. This was the price I was being asked to pay, I understood that now. What my father wanted to cast from me wasn‘t a demon: it was me.

A little lengthier than I generally like my mysteries to be, and I found the ending to be a bit confusing, but still a good addition to the series. I‘m in love with the characters so gonna have a hard time waiting for book 5.

tokorowilliamwallace I probably would prefer my mysteries to be on the lengthy side. I'm in the middle a 700-page Elizabeth George volume, and love that Larsson gives us so much room for his incredible sense of context! I've considered these primarily because of their lengths, but I'm still not sure if I want to experiment with the series yet, even though there's volume two currently available at my most frequented resale charity shop. 2y
WordyForever Like the HP series, they tend to get longer as the series goes on. The first few were manageable. But I haven‘t even started the latest yet 2y

The year is finally winding down so I have more time to get back into reading. Started off with a light novella. Ok, but nothing to write home about. Seemed a little rushed but I guess that happens when you try to fit a whole romance into less than 200 pages.

I guess you could call this anti-love poetry. Maybe it‘s my English education, but I tend to like old poetry over the modern stuff. Still, this was pretty good. About love lost and the end of a relationship.

A few good gems in here, but I think I would have appreciated some of it more if a man were the object. Mainly short pieces about love, adventure, appreciating life. I wish the poems had titles and there was a table of contents, so I could return to the ones I like without having to flip through the whole book to find them

Bronte_Chintz I follow this guy on insta and was tempted to get his book. Would you say it‘s worth it or are the bits on his page enough? 6y
WordyForever @Bronte_Chintz I think most of the poems in the book can be found on his Instagram but I liked reading them in this order and with the accompanying photos. I‘d say it was worth it to me but I guess it depends on what you‘re looking for. If you don‘t care about having them all in one place in print, then his insta is probably enough 6y
Bronte_Chintz @WordyForever Thanks ducky! I might keep it on the TBR for when I see it on offer maybe. 6y
WordyForever @Bronte_Chintz his second book is on preorder now, so I have a feeling the first one will be on sale sometime soon, probably shortly after release 6y

I teared up a little bit not gonna lie. I feel like I don‘t often read about children coming to terms with the meaning of death and with their own inevitable demise. It‘s never easy, especially when you know that it‘s a self fulfilling prophecy and that nothing can circumvent it. I didn‘t get the full impact until the end of Varya‘s part. A book about the importance of living while you‘re alive, and about connection.

Not gonna lie, I actually found the advice in this book very useful. I guess I‘ve been on a self help kick lately, and I really appreciated the actionable steps laid out here. I‘m a huge procrastinator so I‘m hoping I‘ll follow through with some of this stuff. I guess time will tell

Wooooow I haven‘t posted in a month, I‘m the worst. I‘m not usually into the self help genre, but I‘d heard good things about this and it really is different from other advice based books. The action items are largely mental. It‘s not about doing things to improve your life, it‘s about changing your mental state and outlook so you can be happier, and I think it was completely spot on 👌🏼 and very funny. Would recommend

Boy does she know what she‘s doing. I feel like most mysteries make you think the killer could be anyone, until the big reveal. She makes it seem like you know who it is halfway through, and then shows you in the last 10 pages that you were wrong all along.

Interesting connections between each story, but I found some of the main characters just plain annoying tbh. But I think he did a good job of achieving an overall melancholy mood and the frustration of the music business and feeling like a failure in one‘s own industry.

So amazing to hear Carrie Fisher‘s voice, and a little eerie at the parts where she speculates about her own death in the future. But it‘s such a cool look into her life and the making of Star Wars, and how she was affected by all of it. And of course her affair with Harrison Ford, which took up a good chunk of the book considering it only went on for about 3 months 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

AceOnRoam Lee Child 😎 6y
WordyForever @AceOnRoam he is so funny! I‘m actually considering reading his books now. Apparently his writing process is to meander out of bed at like noon, drink 6 cups of coffee, smoke 6 Camels, and start writing around 2. He also said when he was 17 he had a job working for a talent agent who mostly booked strippers 😂 6y
AceOnRoam You're so lucky to have been able to see him talk. Apparently tho' he works quite late into the evening. I think he used to be a cop/investigator too? I'm just glad he's still writing and not contracting out to shadow writers. There's a lot of speculation but his last book was definitely a classic Jack Reacher and I would bet it was definitely written by him. 6y
WordyForever @AceOnRoam it seems that way from how he was talking. He was the only one who doesn‘t find writing difficult at all. He said a book a year is easy for him, and the others all looked at him like he had 2 heads 6y

Holy crap this was so good. I always like short stories because I feel like they have to pack all the emotion of a full length book into a few pages, but this was so cutting and deliberate and emotional that it was literally like being punched. I honestly needed recovery time after each story, wonderful feminist collection. I hope this wins the NBA ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

For anyone trying to become vegan or eat organic, there is a list of brands and foods in the back that can help you out at the grocery store 👌🏼 I‘m a little more inclined to cut down on meat and dairy now but doubt I️ could sustain an organic vegan diet for any length of time 🤷🏻‍♀️
