As the red states compete to out-dumb each other, this is Arizona's latest contribution.

I've been struggling to read lately. My focus is off. Anxiety high. But a few nights ago, I picked this one up from my TBR shelf and cracked it open. Little did I know, I would burn through it. I expected dry, informative science. What I got was a rollercoaster of drama, humor, frustration and lots of fascinating information. Highly recommend to fans of science and astronomy.

Gina BAHAHAHAHAHA... I saw a really cool imax documentary of Pluto at the Adler Museum. He was in it and said the same line. 5y
AthenaWins @Gina I'd love to see that IMAX! 5y

I got almost no pictures on my phone of me - my husband took this in Chicago this summer. We went to visit the aquarium - kids are huge fans.

Fun fact: I love nerdy T-shirts and I am still mourning Pluto. 🙁😎

Trashcanman That shirt is bad ass but if you count Pluto you need to count Ceres! 😊 6y
Gezemice @Trashcanman That‘s debatable. I have read the tagged book! I highly recommend it. 6y
Trashcanman @Gezemice I will check it out! Thanks for the book recommendation. 6y

GypsyKat Great picture, and I love your shirt! 😍 6y
GingerAntics @Gezemice @Nebklvr @TheBookAddict rumor has it, they are bringing Pluto back!!! Fingers crossed, I love that little guy (or is a planet a female? It sustains life, so perhaps I love that little lady)!!! 6y
GingerAntics @Trashcanman actually, I was just recently reading an article that said they were going to bring Pluto back, because apart from size, there were key differences between Pluto and other similar sized bodies in our solar system. Those differences actually make it more like the planets, so it was going to get its title back. 6y
CarolynM Love the Tshirt! 6y
Gezemice @GingerAntics That‘s amazing! I gotta look that up! 6y
Gezemice @Nebklvr @TheBookAddict @GingerAntics Pluto is just cute and disenfrenchised. I remember when my kids were little I bought a solar system mobile kit for them. Soon after Pluto was demoted... but they still sell the same kit. It says, “Contains eight planets plus Pluto” 6y
Gezemice @Chelleo @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego @sprainedbrain @erzascarletbookgasm @GypsyKat @CarolynM Thanks! It is a family tradition to give nerdy shirts to each other at Christmas. I love them. :) 6y
Zelma Echoing everyone in that I love that shirt! 👏 6y
Chelleo That‘s a great tradition! 6y
Trashcanman @GingerAntics good to know. 🤗 Thank you for sharing that. 6y
Gezemice @Zelma Thanks! 6y
Gezemice @Chelleo Yep, it is fun! People always comment on my husband‘s shirts. 6y
GingerAntics @Gezemice you get a bonus soon-to-be-planet-again!!! lol Love that!!! Pluto was always a planet to me. I believe, unerringly, in Pluto. 6y

I‘m on a book buying ban, but convinced myself that these ebook deals didn‘t count as breaking it. For $25 this is really just like buying two books which sounds a lot better than 12 lol.

I absolutely loved this easy-breezy memoir about the hunt and discovery of new planets that led to a new understanding of our solar system. Mike Brown interweaves the story of astronomical research with that of his marriage and the birth of her daughter - which makes it very compelling. The science is very clear; we learn of scientific methods, astronomer politics, and how newly discovered planets are named. Enjoyable, quick read. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I was so moved by this - the scientist studying the planets and discovering several new exciting Pluto-sized objects still thinks the most extraordinary thing in the universe is his infant daughter.

I am currently reading about the tragic demise of Pluto - and I find it an easy breezy, fun read. I often like a nonfiction to break up fiction, especially difficult reads.

I finished The Prince yesterday, which was also non-fiction, albeit very different.
