I thought it was ok but I just felt kind of disconnected from the story unfortunately. I wish I could have loved it more because it seems like something I should have loved but it just missed the mark.

This was a fun book, with the Japanese supernatural creatures as excellent scary and spooky characters.
Kira‘s family shrine is attacked by a powerful Oni, looking for the last piece of the sword of the Sun goddess, and Kira must find new strength and new allies to help save her family, the shrine, and humanity.
4/5 stars, read for some mild Japanese horror and a tale of finding new strength within and new friends.

dabbe Wow, Castle! Book-on-the-back. I'm impressed! 🤩🐾🤩 14mo
GondorGirl Castle is the book equivalent of photographing makeup on your fluffy white cat. 😂😂😂 14mo

I have just started the book the “Seven Deadly Shadows”, which goes into the world of the supernatural and who you can trust or not. In this story we follow Kira, as she tells us the story from a first person perspective as indicated by the use of “I” and that it only shows the story from her perspective.

Jessica_Hulstein We learn early on of her ability to see Yokai demons (kind of like ghosts and evil spirits), which makes her feel more like an outsider than she already is. She attends a prestigious school in Japan, but was only able to get in because of her grades, not because of her money, like most students there. Due to this she is bullied often and finds sanctuary in her grandfathers shrine where she works. (edited) 3y
Jessica_Hulstein But one night it is attacked by Yokai demons and we find out that she must enlist the help of 7 Shinigami (death gods) in order to defeat these demons and their king Shuten-Dogi, before he destroys them. Although I have not read far, I can say it is a good book that keeps you wondering what will happen next. I personally enjoy this book more because it takes place in Japan, which I have always wanted to visit and learn more about their culture. 3y
Jessica_Hulstein So if you like books that deal with the supernatural and Japan folklore this is the book for you as it deals with both in detail. Overall it is a enjoyable read so far and I recommend it to people who also enjoy the folklore and mystery‘s of Japanese culture! (edited) 3y
MissYaremcio Thank you for the review Jessica! This looks really interesting! 6/6 3y

Another one finished. It‘s a retelling of the Seven Samurai. I‘m not a fan. #Scarathlon #TeamHendrix #Wickedathon #SpookOWeen #Screamathon #ReadWithUs

I definitely need to re-read this when I'm in a different headspace. Right now, I feel like I had the issue of being interested in the fantasy elements of the book but really bored by the contemporary part of it.

Completed a blackout for my library‘s February bingo! I just wanted to prove that I could do it. And another benefit is that I am now 11 books ahead of schedule for my Goodreads goal. 💪🏻

3/5 ⭐ I liked the world and the action. Fast paced but I didn't make an emotional connection. #arc
