Hello, New York
Hello, New York: An Illustrated Love Letter to the Five Boroughs | Julia Rothman
6 posts | 4 read | 6 to read
Anyone who hearts New York will love this illustrated homage to the city. Artist, author, and New Yorker Julia Rothman brings humor and tenderness to an eclectic assortment of historical tidbits (how the New York Public Library lion sculptures got their names), idiosyncratic places to visit (where to find the tennis courts at Grand Central Station), interviews with locals (thoughts on love from a Hasidic Jewish landlord), and personal recollections from growing up in the Bronx (fried fish at Johnny's Reef)all illuminated in her beloved signature style. A uniquely entertaining and informative city guide, this slice of the Big Apple will delight New York locals and visitors alike.

My kind of love letter. Oh how I miss NY.

Tonton 😎you don‘t even have to say the name, it‘s ‘the city‘ 6y
Jerdencon @Tonton So true! 6y

mrp27 @Tonton Agreed, I miss the city of course but also so much more. I loved it when my mother in law (who lives in Brooklyn) would refer to going to the city as going to New York. 🤗 6y

Another quick graphic love letter to #NYC. I took some time over my staycation to plan our NYC trip this July. This graphic travelogue of sorts got the excitement going and added some new places to the list of things to check out. Can‘t wait!

I liked but didn't love this very personal and therefore somewhat random presentation of NYC. It was still a fun and interesting read though!

Just wanted to send a quick note saying that me, my wife, and Tibbie are safe after the explosion here in NYC (it's a different neighborhood from us, but pretty close) - and sending lots of love/good feelings to fellow New Yorkers. Photo is of a sulking dog mad he has to stay in...and because photos of cute doges are always helpful.

Bibliogeekery Glad you and your wife are okay! 8y
cariashley Good to hear. Am a few blocks away from it and didn't hear a thing until the sirens started. Crazy, stay safe. 8y

This comic book guide to NYC was charming and the perfect companion to my all-too brief stay. Looking forward to exploring spots from it when I return in December ❤️🇺🇸
