These required I get out of my very much older head to inhabit my inner middle-grade self, then yeah, these are fun. I grew up with absolutely no reference to the legal system. I think it could have been enlightening to read of a 13-yo that loved the law and courtroom as much as other kids love sports, music, art… 👇

marleed I‘m several years into reading (or occasionally rereading) the John Grisham canon, and decided I‘d be amiss if I ignored this series. So thank you @TheAromaOfBooks for providing me the challenge to push these off my TBR. I read the first three for my bookspin! 3mo
Mshookquilts I enjoyed these too. I don‘t think I read beyond the 1st 3 though. 3mo

My dad always read to me, and I can remember so many books we enjoyed together, but the last time is possibly the most important to me.
When I was 17, my lifelong anxiety came to a head and I had a minor breakdown, resulting in me taking a break from school and work. My dad came into my room to check in me one evening, and ended up reading me the tagged. I didn't especially enjoy the book, but the memory makes it special.

Hi from Cozumel! Theodore Boone is a 13 year old with a love for the law. He frequents the courthouse and even gives his classmates counsel. His “job” becomes tricky when he learns key information about a murder from a witness that is scared to testify. What will he do?
The only thing I didn‘t like about this book was that it ends before the verdict. There are more Boone books that continue the story, and I look forward to reading them.

Legal Drama

Around December 2018 - December 18th, 2019.

Found it in my brother's room.

Mrs. Duffy was murdered inside her house around during the day. Mr. Duffy was accused of the crime, but there are no evidence... yet. Theodore Boone, a 13 year old kid is trying to investigate who really killed Mrs. Duffy. Near the end, the person who killed Mrs. Duffy shocked him the most. Do you think Mr. Duffy killed his wife or was it someone else?

Mehso-so

Was curious how Grisham's style would translate for kids. Having Theo explain legal concepts to his classmates worked well, as did his consulting practice for other kids (a la Encyclopedia Brown). But something just felt flat to me. Not that the characters weren't developed, but more like the emphasis was on checking off plot points.

Theo Boone is such a cute character! A 13-year-old kiddo with a great heart, desire to help others, and serious lover of the law. In the 1st installment of this series he helps solve the murder of a woman. Good suspense build up, but the ending was quite abrupt. #MountTBR #LitsyAtoZ #LetterT #ReadingUSA2019 #Mississippi

NatalieR @Laughterhp 😂 Yes, she‘s a cocker spaniel. She was sleepy and not interested in posing for a picture. 🐾💤 Do you have a cocker? 6y

We read this together at bedtime. My son - who is the age it is geared toward - gives it five out of five stars. My older daughter gives it four. I thought it did a nice job of being just tense enough without giving nightmares and gave a good explanation of the court system. We agree we want to read the next book in the series. #BedtimeBookClub

This Realistic Fiction (RF) is filled with intrigue and suspense as a thirteen year old boy gets dragged in the middle of a murder trial because he knows too much. John Grisham is a #1 international bestseller and the master of legal thriller! This is the authors website that contains information and activities. http://www.theodoreboone.com/book1.html

Overall I really enjoyed this book. Grisham does the legal thriller well, and this kid version was no exception. Parts were pretty unbelievable (like a school secretary asking an 8th grader for legal advice), but the story was one I'll recommend to my students next year.
