#BookReport 23/23

I stuck to the forecast and read the three books planned. The tagged one I loved best because it was so gripping but I enjoyed all three of them.

John meets his doppelgänger, a troubled French baron, in a pub. The Baron ensures that John takes his place through a devious maneuver. The new Baron is confronted with complicated family relationships and the imminent bankruptcy of the factory that the family owns. He appears to play a central role in everything and he tries everything to save the family from painful situations. A great gothic read!

vivastory You had me at doppelgänger 1y
vivastory Also, a fun fact I learned very recently you may know. Two of Hitchcock's movies that were released back-to-back were Du Maurier adaptations: Jamaica Inn & Rebecca (edited) 1y

I could not ask for forgiveness for something I had not done. As scapegoat, I could only bear the fault.

I‘ve had an epiphany about du Maurier. If I ignore the implausible plot elements and just focus on her luscious writing and rich characters, I thoroughly enjoy her books. This was my third by her and my favorite so far.

Good old Daphne. She never disappoints.
Fabulous story of a dopelganger and an unlikely and one sided life swap.
Whilst the ending wasn't what I wanted, it was good.

Once again Daphne Du Maurier does not disappoint! Beautiful narrative and complex themes, this is a fabulous book! Rebecca has long been my favorite of her works, but The Scapegoat is a new contender for that position! I enjoyed Du Maurier's exploration of self and identity, good and evil, and doubling.

From the look of this 1959 edition of The Scapegoat there are some perks to your double drugging you and stealing your identity ... #Uremindme #heatofjuly

BarbaraBB Still need to read this one. Is it good? 6y
Cinfhen The retro covers are so amusing! (edited) 6y

Mehso-so

I loved it up until the last ten pages. Then it sucked so much I had to go out for this margarita. Still, not a waste of time, just a clumsy, dumb ending.
