I was intrigued by the idea of detective fiction without the detective. It worked, mostly because there was a lot of focus on family history and character.

I'm not sure what to make of this. Intriguing story but I was mildly confused some of the time. The sections from the past were definitely the best. I was also somewhat disappointed with the outcome. The writing was good though and I'm off to hear the author speak in a few weeks so will give her new book a go.
I didn't get on too well with my last pick but I think it was me so haven't bailed it. Hoping this pick is a bit better or I'm more in the mood for some reading.
Just about to start reading this ... new book group read ... sounds dark and mysterious from the back cover ... we shall see :)
This gets a pick, although it's one of those where I've got to the end and I kind of need someone to explain the story to me so I can make sure I got it right!! It's told in a time-hopping way which I really enjoyed and the family are so interesting and flawed and real, but I wanted more of the other Mrs Walker at the end so I could be sure of the closure of the story. An enjoyable read all in all though.
Started on this one a couple of days ago and it's intriguing already. Lots to unravel...
