I picked this up because I enjoyed the PBS series and expected it to be historical fiction. It‘s not. It‘s nonfiction about the activities of the Women‘s Institute in Britain during WWII. Not something I would have thought interesting, but I was wrong. It was fascinating social history and I recommend it.
Am I hopelessly adolescent to find his name amusing? (Yes, I know it‘s spelled differently.)
Pity the five year olds learning their addresses who had to write this village name!

My grandmother pasted this pattern for "Service Socks" into the front of one of her cookbooks during WW2. She taught me how to knit but said she knit so many socks for the war effort while my grandfather was stationed in Europe that she would NEVER knit another pair again. Here's to those who kept the home fires burning.

I'm probably the only person still doing Netflix through mail, BUT! So excited for season two of Home Fires. So sad it wasn't picked up for a third season. Anyone else watching?
