Necroscope | Brian Lumley
18 posts | 25 read | 32 to read
Twenty years ago, the horror world was forever altered by the publication of Necroscope. An instant classic, Brian Lumley's astonishing feat of imagination spawned a universe which Lumley has explored and expanded through more that a baker's dozen of novels and novellas. Millions of copies of Necroscope and its successors are in print in a dozen languages throughout the world. Nominated for the British Fantasy Award, Necroscope has inspired everything from comic books and graphic novels to sculptures and soundtracks. This new edition of Necroscope uses the author's preferred text and includes a special introduction by Brian Lumley, telling how the Necroscope saga came to be. It also includes chapter ornaments by Hugo-Award-Winning artist Bob Eggleton, long identified with Lumley's blood-sucking monsters. As a classic, Necroscope rightfully claims a place in the Orb trade paperback list, for scholars of the field and the dedicated Lumley collector. And also for all the people who have read more than one mass market copy of the book to tatters. Harry Keogh is the man who can talk to the dead, the man for whom every grave willingly gives up its secrets, the one man who knows how to travel effortlessly through time and space to destroy the vampires that threaten all humanity. In Necroscope, Harry is startled to discover that he is not the only person with unusual mental powers--Britain and the Soviet Union both maintain super-secret, psychically-powered espionage organizations. But Harry is the only person who knows about Thibor Ferenczy, a vampire long buried in the mountains of Romania--still horribly alive, in undeath--and Thibor's insane "offspring," Boris Dragosani, who rips information from the souls of the dead in a terrible, ever-lasting form of torture. Somehow, Harry must convince Britain's E-Branch that only by working together can they locate and destroy Dragosani and his army of demonic warriors--before the half-vampire succeeds in taking over the world! At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

This was a really good read and the characters were superb, although a bit slow at times and slightly dated.

Nevertheless, I'm excited to continue with this series.

The_Book_Ninja I piled through all five in the series and the Blood Brothers trilogy when I was younger. Wild books: Vampires meet Cold War espionage. I think they had a pretty dated feel when they were originally published though and the sex is cringy. 2y

Mehso-so

I liked about half of this book. It really has a lot that I should‘ve loved, but it felt tedious in the way it was told. I also found all the math stuff to be super boring. Will I continue with this series? Probably not, but if I‘m dying for something to read in week whatever of quarantine I may have to.

I‘ve had this on my shelf for a few years and finally cracked it. I can already see myself getting wrapped up in this world (which is good since there are so many books in this series!)

"A pearly droplet was forming on the pallid, pulsating tip of the leprous tentacle where it protruded from the hole in the tree above Dragonsani's head. As it grew it became pear-shaped, hung downward, began to quiver. Above it a crimson eye formed, gaze lidlessly, full of rapt intent." (PG 320)

Brian Lumley's Necroscope Series.

You shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but in this case you should. As awesome as the covers are the writing is even better. I have six of the series, but I believe he may have written more...

I used to spend a lot of weekend nights at my grandparents' house when I was young, and I shared a room with my youngest aunt, who was only nine years older than me. And one weekend when I was eight, she brought this book home, and I had the most horrible nightmares just from looking at the cover. And looking at it now, it's perfectly understandable! 😳⚰️☠️

PS - Good night! 😂

britt_brooke 😱 And yet, I can't stop looking at it. 8y

Liberty @josie281 Ha! I hadn't even noticed. I'm writing an article about vampire books, and this one popped into my head. 😊 8y
Peterdamien It needs to be a wicked tattoo, or sprayed on the side of a VAN. Or on a GUITAR maybe. It's awesome. 8y
Zelma @Peterdamien oh yeah, a van! Or a muscle shirt of a heavy metal album cover. 😂🤘 8y

One of my favourite series. So thought provoking as well as truly scary at times. Now THIS is what a vampire series should be!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
