I recently saw this on @BeaG 's feed. Hoopla had a full cast audiobook. It's so good and only 2 hours and some change. I was able to finish it in 1 morning. I also love the set up. Each voice was so unique. Short but super powerful.

This is a great YA book! I‘m partial to poetry. This book had a story intertwined with poetry. I loved the set up and how it all came together. I don‘t know why I‘m just now finding out about this book.
At a high school in new york(the bronx)students in Mr. Ward's English class are learning all about the Harlem Renaissance. When Mr. Ward assigns them an essay to write, Wesley, one of the kids in class, has an idea to write a poem instead...it's what they're studying, after all. this genre of this book is realistic fiction. i would rate this book to anyone who likes new york, and people who like poems.
Bronx #Masquerade is the story of a class taking off their masks for a moment and allowing for vulnerability by sharing their struggles through their #poetry.

“That‘s one thing these ladies know how to do. Be soft and strong at the same time. Like my moms.”
Loving this book. Why did it take me so long to read it?
I read this when it first came out — 15 years ago! — and I‘m ready for a reread before the companion novel hits my shelves.
Another beautiful story from Nikki Grimes! This one features a class of high school students, each dealing with their own stuff, who come together on Fridays to share their stories through poetry. A quiet beauty of a book!
I got this book because it seems like an interesting book because it's about these high school students telling there stories and their words through poetry. #san_32 @MarinaSantos
I enjoyed this. Multiple high school students of different ethnicities and backgrounds come together in English class during "open mic" time where they share their poetry. They discover they have more in common than they think and that people are more than what you see on the surface.

"That's some strong stuff Raoul be writin'. He was workin' it. Frankly, I didn't know Raoul had it in him. Matter of fact, I didn't know he knew that much English!" The voice cast is on point so far!

When your kid writes poetry and for two weeks has been asking, "Are you and dad coming to open mic night at school?" And you want to love on every.single.kid.there. who clearly love to write and read ?
