I adored this darkly funny book! Multiple murders, teens trying to hide the bodies while trying to find out who the murderer is, one teen dressing up as the murdered headmistress, people constantly coming over and causing the girls to improvise, a town strawberry social, a nosy constable. Fantastic!

"There's a murderer on the loose—but that doesn't stop the girls of St. Etheldreda's from attempting to hide the death of their headmistress in this rollicking farce." Sounds great! This will be the next audiobook I listen to and I can't wait to start it.

SUCH a fun audiobook! This was a great change vflm some of what I usually read. I do enjoy mystery/comedies… it reminded me a bit of the movie “keeping mum”. The young ladies of Saint Ethel Draders school for proper young ladies do try their hardest to hide the fact that their headmistress has died, but it unravels around them more and more hilariously. Brilliant narration. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

The plot was pretty good, and I have to admit I didn't get the culprit right. I was partially right though, that counts for something right? I definitely enjoyed the victorian setting, and the mystery. #mg

This book is a mystery in more ways than one. Fun & lightly macabre little romp, would be a great movie/play—the farcical elements esp in the beginning would be hilarious to see. But I‘m pedantically hung up on how to categorize it. GR users are split b/t YA & MG. Some of the girls are MG age, others older. But it won an award for MG fiction, so I guess that settles it. It just...feels like both in some ways! But ah well, it‘s fun & absurd. 3/5 ⭐️

The only kind of mystery books I can read these days are cozies or middle grade. This is obviously the latter, and it‘s a farce set in a Victorian era boarding school, so that sounds pretty promising!

Delightful middle-grade mystery that reminded me of the Flavia DeLuce series. Seven girls living in a mediocre boarding school in 1850s Ely, England, find themselves in a pickle when their headmistress and her son are found dead. The cause: poisoning. They take things into their own hands by disposing of the bodies and trying to solve the crime in order to keep their “sisterhood” together. Couldn‘t put this book down. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book showed me a new side of young Victorian women. 7 girls, very brilliant and slightly terrifying. Good characters, good story. Recommend for anyone who likes historical fiction and a bit of intrigue.

I enjoyed the break from heavy hitters with this delightful Children‘s murder mystery. Thank you @SassenachTheBookWizard for the recommendation on your YouTube. When the pupils of a small finishing school find their headmistress dead, they decide to keep quiet and carry on, but is that a safe decision with a murderer on the lose.

I just loved this concept. Your head lady at your finishing school drops dead over dinner and you don't want to be slip up from the girls at your Finishing School because you love them so you cover up the murder while also investigating it and suddenly you have visitors at your place every hour and then someone dresses up as dead head lady. There wasn't really any huge laugh out loud moments but the overall tone and the characters were just so fun

It sounds like Weekend at Bernie's but with girls at a Finishing School!

I did it! Finished this one a few minutes ago. Read most of it on the beach this beautiful fall weekend. Sometimes I get envious of everyone's cozy fall posts then I remember I get beach weekends year round and I'm good. Happy Fall! 🍂🍁

More of a sisterhood than #sisters as these schoolmates try to solve the murder of their headmistress at their school. Thinking about reading this one for #booked2028 set at school but haven't decided.

This book is entertaining from the first word until the end! I am almost sorry it is not a series... highly recommend!

This upper middle grade/YA historical fiction is full of characters that you love to hate. I enjoyed it very much.

I feel like I should should start this off by saying I would never of read this if it wasn't for a book club, it just isn't something I thought sounded interesting. And I was right, the book just wasn't for me. I found it extremely slow and unrealistic.

Starting on my mini "middle grade catch-up quest" while taking a long walk to buy cat food.

This is a solid book for middle school aged people. I liked the female characters and that it highlighted intelligence, logic, and resourcefulness. The mystery was well done for the age group it's intended for. Not quite as engaging as The Westing Game but definitely worth a read if you have a young person who likes mysteries. It does get off to a slow start but it's worth it.

I couldn't resist that title. It is a middle grade book, so expect it to read like one. Nevertheless, it was a lot of fun!
