January‘s book club selection. I‘m glad this story was written as it‘s a great piece of history to know about. I recently learned about the Kindertransport from a children‘s non-fiction picture book I came across at work, Stars of the Night, and found this to be a nice historical fiction tie-in. The first half was kinda slow and boring but the story did pick up. ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

I feel bad about this because I‘ve enjoyed other books by this author, but my mind kept wandering and I couldn‘t stay focused on the story. I think in this instance, the audiobook format may not have been the best choice.

I feel like this book could easily be a movie with Meryl Streep as Tante Truss!

I knew nothing about the kindertransport or Truus Wijsmuller-Meijer, who helped save over 10,000 mostly Jewish children by getting them out of Germany and Austria and into England during WWII. I liked the book but it was quite slow. Overall still a pick though.

It took me over 100 pages before this book grabbed me, I almost gave up on it. I‘m so very glad I didn‘t!!!💜💜💜 Such a heart wrenching story!!! I read a lot of WWII fiction and didn‘t know much about the Kindertransport!!!

Started listening to the on the basis that a Facebook friend said it made her cry in public

Enjoying it so far although I find the short choppy chapters a bit distracting on audio

I was needing a break from Elton John, and picked this at random from my kindle app.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ WWII novels are a big thing and, honestly, I can get burned out on them. This one, however, really worked for me. The characters are fascinating and the world seemed fresh (even though I‘ve read probably a dozen novels set in the same time period just this year!). This is definitely one I would recommend the next time someone asks for a good historical novel.

Historical fiction about the kinder transport. Following children and also the woman who helped save them.

This is a slow burn with a lot of characters and ultimately readers may find themselves disconnected. Written in short chapters, the story doesn't gain traction until about two thirds of the way through.

What is most moving is that this book is about the profoundness of kindness, and for standing up for what you believe in—for the good and for what's right. This is a timely message as the world needs more empathy, love, and goodness right now.

I generally avoid WWII fiction,but I was so smitten with Meg‘s presentation at a bookstore near my home that I had to read it.This book has a bit of everything—a wealthy Jewish family,a Christian girl whose mother edits a progressive anti-Nazi paper, a Dutch woman determined to save children,Eichmann and his intimidating German shepherd,a chocolate factory, a sewer system offering a bit of safety, Kristallnacht, hate and hope, and even looted art.

Reading on quiet weekend mornings is the best, isn't it? Doors & windows are open, & I'm enjoying the chill in the air. My backyard is again covered in leaves, even though the gardener just raked on Friday. 🍃🍂🍁 Forecast is for lovely days ahead . . . right up until I leave on vacation. Hopefully, when I return, autumn will be fully upon us & I will miss any last 100+ degree days. 😎
