I love love love this series and have been waiting so long for the final book but I must say the timing turned out perfectly. This is the dystopian fantasy I needed to read right now. Abby wrote a great essay about the series and what it means in this political climate for Google Play too: https://play.google.com/books/article/y23ktbdyae/fate-of-the-tearling

In case you were waiting for the paperback... (And if you didn't wait, I want to see how you rate!)

CaffeinatedFae Honestly, I wasn't a huge fan of it. I do love that it shows how a mediocre book can be turned into a phenomenal classic. 9y
KateTheBookworm I appreciated it for what it was. Getting to see the origins of what became a classic was fascinating, and it definitely added depth to my feelings on Mockingbird. As a stand alone novel though... not so much. 9y
Uranaishi I loved this book. I thought it was in fact more honest and daring than Mockingbird. Mockingbird is a portrait of a past life - this one was a call to action to grow up & stand up for what is right, which it turns out we may need even more today. 9y
See All 12 Comments
LinaLovesLit I was excited when I first read that this book was being printed, but lost interest when they announced the title. Having found out that the title is in reference to Atticus, not something preachy, I will probably check it out soon. 9y
Minimalgrl This was definitely a draft... The parts where scout recalls her childhood are kernels of the mockingbird to come. The adult portions were disappointing 8y
KimberlyPalmer I loved it. I know I'm in the minority, but to me it made Atticus more dimensional. It's hard to grow up and find out that the adults you most admire and love aren't perfect. I felt like reading mockingbird so many years before reading watchmen took me on the journey with Scout. 8y
KristiR I was not a fan; I was a bit trepidatious going into it as I had only recently retread Mockingbird and coming out of it, I can appreciate bits and pieces but as a whole I disliked and don't think it should have been published as it didn't jive with Mockingbird. 8y
Penelope I agree with Kimberly--it is life when our heroes become human. 8y
Louise I enjoyed this book. While it isn't as tightly written as Mockingbird, it is a poignant coming-age story. Scout finds she has to hold to her own ideas, even if they conflict with those of her beloved father. And it was an insight into Atticus's generation's difficulty in overcoming ingrained ideas. 8y
ReadingRailroader I enjoyed it. It shows another side of how times were back then and gives a look back on how hard it was to bring about change. However, I'm glad it was published now and not then. Earlier generations needed Atticus as an untarnished hero in their struggles. 8y
Zakia While one side of my railed at Atticus falling from grace and being more 'humanised', I see how this perfectly mirrors the very same coming of age disillusionment many of us feel when our eyes see the failings of our parents. Atticus is still very dear to me. 8y
CaityG I really enjoyed this book. It was interesting to see the characters grow up and have to see things through adults eyes. I'm glad this one was published and glad I didn't wait for the paperback. 8y
