In typical me fashion I‘ve managed to start a new series out of order. Fear not gentle reader this is a strong stand alone and I‘m not off to find book 1 as this is book 2. Quick fun read. Perfect for unplugging and enjoying an afternoon of reading.

It was fun, but Mal and Anne just came across as very flat characters. I enjoyed the book, but I liked the first book in the series much more. #romance
Mal is a character who is not only himself, but can draw the true versions of others when around. Plus, he appreciates the importance of romance novels.
It's also nice that the author has him make an appearance in each book of this series and the spin-off.

(2/3) Then I immediately bought Play because Mal made an adorably crazy cameo in Dirty and referenced his girl "Pumpkin" at home reading romance and I NEEDED to read a book about this couple. They did not disappoint. Rule-following, serious Anne and hyper, life-of-the-party Mal are great compliments to each other. #romantsy
And then...
There are some close contenders such as Everett Hitch (played by Viggo Mortensen in 'Appaloosa'), Jamie Fraser, and Ranger, but Mal from Play made such an impression that he 'went to No. 1 with a bullet'. #literarycrush
The photo is from Lasse Matberg's Instagram (lasselom) page. This is my vision of Mal.
The love that the main character Mal has for his beloved is maybe a bit unconventional, but so very honest (in a rock 'n roll sort of way) #seasonsreading2016 #inthemoodforlove
I disliked this book a whole lot. Disappointed. I really liked Mal in Licked but wow, Mal in Play was not the Mal in Licked. He was too crazy in this book, bouncing from one rush to the next. Anne was too forgiving of his overpowering nature. I was perplexed by the entire story. Still, I finished the book with speed—I attribute that to the author's writing style. She writes with a flare that suits me. I wish the story itself and I got along.
On the one hand, I didn't like that Mal just sort of takes over Anne's life. She could have used more fleshing out in terms of her interests, besides the band and seeing her sister. On the other hand, Mal and Anne work well together and plausible explanations are given for Mal's behavior. (But someone should have had a concussion based on how many times these 2 hit their heads!) Overall, I did enjoy the book.
I had so much fun with the first book in this series, I've got to keep going. AND this one is about Mal, who I really liked as a secondary character in the first book. #readathon
