Reading this poetry book felt like a powerful and emotional experience in understanding some of the trauma and resilience experienced through immigration. Other layers include generational trauma and feminist trauma. I loved every second of it and am sorry this round went sideways! Adina your notes were a perfect complement to this experience- thank you so much! All three books will be mailed today.

Chrissyreadit @IndoorDame if you have other books you recommend I would love to hear them. If you ever want to do an poetry read with my crazy self also - I really loved reading 窶彗long窶 with you. 2y
IndoorDame @Chrissyreadit I‘m glad this one spoke to you! I‘d love to do a poetry read with you sometime! I‘m in the middle of a deep dive into some classics at the moment, but I‘ll give you a shout when I pick up something more approachable and you can let me know if you‘re interested in it! 2y
ElizaMarie Wow this book sound spretty powerful! I am 窶徭tacking窶 it because I think it will also resonate with me. 2y

Chrissyreadit @ElizaMarie i do think you would like it! 2y
Chrissyreadit @IndoorDame sounds good! What‘s a poetry book that you loved this past 12 months? What classics are you reading? I think I‘m going to order Sappho to read- she‘s been on my list for way too long. 2y
IndoorDame @Chrissyreadit Anne Carson has a wonderful translation of Sappho that I read last year that I‘d definitely recommend! Classics- currently reading Sarah Teasdale, spent the last few months reading Leaves of Grass, about to start a comparison of the traditional Emily Dickinson with a version Christine Miller put out a few years ago transcribed directly from her manuscripts and (wording not edited posthumously). I‘m going to leave off saying too much about this one since it still has 3 readers in #LMPBC #GroupN and I want them to be able to see it with fresh eyes. My thoughts are in the back of the book. Also works for #FoodAndLit India this month.

@Pigpen_Reads I‘ll get this in the mail to you this weekend.

KristiAhlers Why do they do this to our treasures??? Ugh it‘s the worst. If you use a little nail polish remover on a cotton ball you can get that crud off. But be careful it can dull shiny covers if you use too much 2y

IndoorDame @KristiAhlers ooh, thanks! I‘ll definitely try that 2y
mandarchy You need the smallest container of demco book cleaner and a very light chisel or butter knife. The $10 container will last a lifetime of its just for you. The stuff is magic! Oh, and a magic eraser helps. 2y
IndoorDame @mandarchy good call. Magic erasers help with everything! 2y
mandarchy @IndoorDame the book cleaner they sell is magic. I remove a lot of stickers from donations and old library tape. The magic eraser is great when the butter knife starts to scratch. 2y
CoverToCoverGirl 汳ッ% agree! A major peep peeve for me too! 2y
IndoorDame @KristiAhlers nail polish totally worked like magic! Thank you!!! Greatest low rent hack ever! 2y

Group N, these are a few contemporary titles on my TBR. Let me know if any of these appeal, and which you‘ve read already. Top left is tagged above. I‘ll tag the others in the comments. (I have plenty of others including classics on my list if these don‘t work). #LMPBC

TheBookHippie I‘ve read none!!! All look good. That is zero help to you! I‘m so excited for this category! 2y
Pigpen_Reads I haven't read any of these, but I tend to stay with the classics. 2y
IndoorDame @Pigpen_Reads would you prefer I picked a classic? 2y
Pigpen_Reads @IndoorDame I'm completely new to LMPBC. Are we just picking one book to share or one book each? I'm a bit confused 沽 2y
IndoorDame @Pigpen_Reads we each pick a book and mail them to each other in a round robin so over 4 months we each read 4 books. Since @suvata organizes the whole thing, you‘ll find more complete info on her page somewhere. 2y
Pigpen_Reads @IndoorDame Okay, thank you! 2y
Chrissyreadit When you ask is my first choice but I have not read any. 2y
IndoorDame @Chrissyreadit @TheBookHippie @Pigpen_Reads Great! I‘m happy to go with When You Ask. Really looking forward to our group! 2y

As a book of poetry, this is a phenomenal work, especially in the beginning. While I cannot relate to certain aspects, such as the trials of immigration, many of the poems were universal to all women and some speak specifically to trauma survivors. I was fully immersed, page after page, in these poignant bits of emotion - their raw, profound ache captivating my heart and mind.

BUT...

Left: a poem about being confident in your own body, beliefs, morals, and ideas. Right: a poem about rape, how the victim is blamed and made to feel it was her fault for the actions of others.

Bought this book from B&N for mainly two reasons 1. The author‘s name is Jasmin (my name is Jasmine lol) and 2. It was half off! It‘s a poetry/prose type book and the author is a woman of color which is icing on the cake.
