This book. Has made me so damned angry, uncomfortable and outraged that I‘m not entirely sure I want to read the next book. It was well written and the story was good but I think I HATE IT!🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬😤😤

I was pretty underwhelmed by this book. The writing was not bad, but I had a hard time connecting with any of the characters or understanding any of their motivations. Judah, the main character, is a “chosen one” who does almost nothing the entire book; Elban, the mustache twirling villain, disappears halfway through the book and never had an identifiable reason for his machinations. The much too long book ends basically with a shrug 🤷🏽♀️
Week Two totals for #LittenListen Audioathon. So far I have only finished one audiobook, but it was long, and I am hoping to stack up on some shorter ones for the rest of the month. Bonus points for finishing a square on my #BookspinBingo and Name Your Poison Day. @aperfectmjk
My first week of audiobook listen for #LittenListen was a lot less than I had intended. We had amazing weather this past week, which meant a lot more time spent outdoors with my bf and a lot less time inside reading/listening. My goal is to finish the tagged book (it is 20 hours long!) this week and hopefully start something else new.
Week 1 Total: 20 points
First audiobook started for the #LittenListen Audioathon hosted by @aperfectmjk
Also fits for the #DareDay prompt since the plot definitely sounds like there will be some action/adventure.
I keep starting books and nothing is sticking. I think this one has sticking power. I saw it on Erin Morgensterns Instagram, author of The Night Circus. She loved it, so I added it to my tbr.
I don‘t think I could easily summarize my feelings for this book so here‘s my full thoughts 😅
I don't know what to make of this dark fantasy. I was immersed in the story, characters, and world. The writing was really good. The machinations, politics, and avarice was truthful. But it was dreadfully dark and violent, with some really dysfunctional relationships (definitely CW for mysogyny, for assault, for child abuse, for gaslighting, for suicide, and for manipulation). Read with caution and let me know what you think!
1) Absolutely! 🙊 I repurchased the whole Wheel of Time series when they rereleased them with new covers because the original covers were so awful! 😂🤣
2) The Unwilling by Kelly Braffet! It's a fantasy that looks amazing!
3) Book news? Mostly Tor, Book Riot, and Lit Hub.
4) I pound on that snooze button as many times as I can! 😁
5) Whoever wants to play! 💕📚

Going to settle in and get started. I just might stay up all night!
The Unwilling is a sprawling, winding story. Kelly Braffet‘s writing is engrossing. The careful planning of each little detail can be deftly felt. The magic, what is known in this fictitious world as the Work, is intriguing in the way it connects those with the talent. But The Unwilling is also not an easy read, but somehow I kept finding my way back to it again and again. For that, it wove some kind of spell over me. vampirebookclub.net
My most anticipated novel of 2020 now has a GORGEOUS cover! KELLY BRAFFET RULES. It‘s a 672-page fantasy novel. I cannot wait to get my hands on this book! 🍃🗝🚪
