Thank you @Daisey so much for the recommendation! I decided to go with the audiobook for this historical fiction book about 3 young girls involved in the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire in 1911. I got very invested in each girl‘s story and it was so sad, knowing what was coming towards the end. This real-life tragedy changed a lot of things in America. Reading what they had to go through back then made me very grateful for what we have now. ⬇️

Yetta is a Russian Jew, Bella is Italian and Jane is a wealthy American. In 1910, their worlds collide when workers at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory strike for better conditions but we know this story ends in a tragedy that led to labor law changes. An incredible look at life for women and immigrants in turn of the century NYC and the chasm between the rich and the working class. A well crafted YA book, highly recommended!

Hmm a great book to read to get my students pondering worker rights.

#theflame instantly made me think of the Triangle Waist Co. fire. In 1911, the worst industrial disaster ever recorded happened when the TWC caught fire. 146 garment workers lost their lives, either from the fire or from jumping to their deaths. The doors and stairwells were locked in order to keep the workers from taking breaks. 😢 #heatofjuly

Sooooo I‘m on a book buying ban but obviously #Ohioana didn‘t count. I saw Margaret Peterson Haddox as we were leaving and as @Mdargusch and I were chatting with her, we noticed a postcard she had on her table. It showed historically dated teenage girls and I was instantly drawn to it, so when she told us it was a book about the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire in 1911, I had to have it. She was all out so I literally ordered it from Amazon right there.

Quick run to the library & I snagged these. I've always been interested in the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire & this YA book looks like a good place to start for a narrative.

This is a great book and every girl should read it. Tells the story of immigrant girls and their struggle in finding jobs in NYC. It is historically based around the Triangle fire of 1911 in the garment district. Love the ending statement, We will not be stupid girls, We will not be powerless girls, We will not be useless girls.

This cover was the first thing that came to mind for #girlonfire. It has been a few years since I read it, but this is an amazing YA historical fiction about the Triangle Shirtwaist fire told through the stories of three women. 🔥
