Book of Bones: A Thriller
Book of Bones: A Thriller | John Connolly
11 posts | 11 read | 1 reading | 6 to read
"Complex, pulse-pounding...Connolly's nuanced characterizations and facility at creating spooky atmospherics make it easy to suspend disbelief about the threat of cosmic horror from other dimensions."--Publishers Weekly (starred review) Private Investigator Charlie Parker returns in this heart-pounding thriller as he seeks revenge against the darkest forces in the world, from the internationally bestselling author of the acclaimed The Woman in the Woods. He is our best hope. He is our last hope. On a lonely moor in northern England, the body of a young woman is discovered. In the south, a girl lies buried beneath a Saxon mound. To the southeast, the ruins of a priory hide a human skull. Each is a sacrifice, a summons. And something in the darkness has heard the call. Charlie Parker has also heard it and from the forests of Maine to the deserts of the Mexican border, from the canals of Amsterdam to the streets of London, he will track those who would cast the world into darkness. Parker fears no evil--but evil fears him. With John Connolly's signature "blend of crime and supernatural horror" (Crime Reads), A Book of Bones is a terrifying and suspenseful thrill ride that will keep you guessing until the very last page.

#SeriesRead2021 @TheSpineView #BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks

This one was quite intense and probably one of my favorites in the series. The information on antique book collecting was fascinating to me. Lots of stories and characters from previous books all come together in this one. Great thriller with some very creepy moments.

I only have one published book left in this series to be caught up now.

TiredLibrarian Love this series so much. Not caught up on it yet, though. 3y
Addison_Reads @TiredLibrarian had it not been for #SeriesRead2021 I might not have caught up, but that gave me the push I needed. This is easily one of my favorite series. 3y
TheSpineView Awesome! 3y
Read-y_Picker Don't need to start another series... must resist - ok it's stacked lol 3y

#weeklyforecast
Had hoped to finish the tagged one today but have been working all afternoon so that‘s probably not going to happen. The other two are catching my fancy at the moment for this week.
I was supposed to do my top 20 today, but it may be a bit longer, but before the end of the year 😁

squirrelbrain Ugh, don‘t work too hard. 😘 4y
BarbaraBB It makes sense to wait a bit. The Remains of the Day might make your top 20 😉 (edited) 4y
TrishB @squirrelbrain I was off Friday as C came back from uni. But that means I feel even more behind. Only 10 working days left..... 4y

Quoted at start of Part 13 — as close as I can come to a review without giving away the plot. If you‘ve read Connolly, it will make sense in relation to The Atlas. If you haven‘t, start at the beginning. GREAT AUTHOR!!

TrishB Great series 👍🏻 4y
CaitlinR @TrishBelize It is a great series, although there were times I needed to read them only in daylight hours 😱 4y

This is my favorite series and it‘s been for quite awhile. Book 17 brings all the elements of this particular story arc full circle and leaves you with a good reveal on the very last page!

I feel the overall book was good just not great. I look forward as always to the next book.

Ahh, #ThisIsIt - my most anticipated read of 2019!! And, as usual, John Connolly does not disappoint!! I loved this 17th installment of the Charlie Parker series! Usually, I say that I couldn‘t put it down, but this #chunkster forced me to for the sake of my poor arms! 🤣 Although I wanted it to keep going - because now the wait starts over... #AMonthOfSongs

TrishB I‘m up to number 7 in the series and I love that there are still quite a few to go! 5y

Wow, what a tour de force! The newest adventure brings Parker on the Old Continent in a massive showdown with Quayle. It‘s also an homage to books, their power& the obsessive love they can inspire. The pace is alert, utterly masterful, not once boring. Paradoxically (don‘t forget its massive bulk), the end felt a bit rushed. A few extra chapters to offer a more well-rounded closure would‘ve been great. Still, one of the best in the series!📚

Most of my April has been full with quite big books (I can‘t lie, it was a pleasure reading them 🤓) but then John Connoly publishes the latest instalment in the Charlie Parker story and it turns out it‘s a behemoth of a book 👀 (700 pages)

TrishB Good choices though 👍🏻 I have 3 of those ready! 6y
Tonton Wonderful stack! 6y
Olivia306 @TrishB I‘m almost done with “We are not ourselves” (the last one to finish for April) and then it‘s Charlie Parker for me. 📚 6y
Olivia306 @Tonton Thank you. 🤓 6y
TrishB I‘m looking forward to that one! 6y
