Eh
I wanted some light reading for my relaxing trip "up north" (as we say in the Mitten) and instead I got two books that both had me actively rooting AGAINST the main couples. All of them needed to leave who they were with, go out and find new people, and most importantly, find some healthy relationship dynamics! The Griffin book was utterly bizarre; the Kinsella merely lackluster. I usually really enjoy both of these authors, but these were NOT it.
Finished book two of the #readtherainbow challenge. The Lies That Bind by Emily Giffin. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
First time reading this author, and although I can appreciate why people like her books, I did not like this story. The main character was completely defined by her relationships with two men. Couldn‘t relate to her and she kind of annoyed me😂
I love the way Emily Gordon writes, but often struggle with her female lead characters that to me seem weak. It‘s an easy and fast read but I was disappointed with Cecily the entire novel.
I really enjoyed the audiobook. I liked the different cast and the main character did a fantastic job. The story was good and kept me interested.
We may not get do-overs in life, but we can always have fresh starts and new beginnings 🌤
THE LIES THAT BIND by Emily Giffin
I loved this author's book ALL WE EVER WANTED and decided to give this one a chance. I was not disappointed.
This is a great story with plot that will keep you wanting more. A story of love, loss, deceit, forgiveness and moving on. A love that is either strong and worth fighting for or a love that can't hold up to expectations. 5/5 stars

I really liked this love story with twists. I especially liked the way 9/11 was handled. This is the first book I‘ve read with 9/11 as a backdrop and it plays as almost a character in the book.
Whew, that was a whole lot of drama with a side of cheese. Like a Hallmark movie PLUS it's super unneeded sequel all in one. To be fair, it was entertaining enough and I kept turning the pages. But there were more than a few eye rolls in there too 😂 3.5⭐️
Day drinking. I mean... reading. Definitely reading 😉
Wow I really enjoyed the twists in this one! I raced through it and while I saw some of the twists coming, others were a surprise. Really love these Emily Giffin novels ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2
Not a mystery, this book still kept me guessing. However, the title and too good to be true romance early on should tip readers off. One quality in Giffin‘s books is her characters make horrible decisions. This proves to be true here as well. Still, I like how the characters acknowledge their flaws. I also liked that 9/11 is a supporting character. An important part of the big picture, it doesn‘t leave you feeling like its presence was misplaced.
There‘s some authors that I have to read everything they publish. Emily Giffin is one of them.
The story takes a few unexpected turns which left me ambivalent. The story began light hearted where it seemed like it would be a fun and uncomplicated. Suddenly, the conversations with Grant Smith become personal as he shares information regarding his parents and now ailing brother. The stories he explains to Cecily are devastating yanking further on her heart strings. There were a lot questions regarding where the story was going.

𝐄𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐆𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐧's 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐁𝐢𝐧𝐝 ponders how to recognize the person one is meant to be with & the consequences of choices. Revelations keep the story moving as a NYC reporter searches for the truth about the man she thought she loved. Redemption, forgiveness, & second chances all figure in an entertainingly soap-ish story. ⭐⭐⭐

Great quick book. The first half didnt seem like it went as deep as it shouldve. The last half was great and felt very realistic. There was a cute little surprise that I cant give away (hint: cameo). Just wasnt Giffins best. I did love the throwback to the early 2000s tho.
Book 102 of 2020
We may not get do overs in life, but we can always have fresh starts and new beginnings.
If Ive learned anything, its that secrets always turn into lies when theyre kept from the people we love.
I know Im not being fair, but feelings arent fair.
...you cant lose something that was never really yours.
...you reach the mundane, comfortable moments only when a relationship is working. When its not working, the passion morphs into something twisted and dark. Drama. Jealousy. A never ending power struggle.
The truth is the point.. the truth is always the point.
It felt a bit weird to like this one as much as I did since I‘m still queasy about 9/11 setting the backdrop to a fictional plot. However, I was intrigued with the characters and remained curious as to how everything would unfold in this world where NYC was made incredibly small. (It‘s so small that readers of her previous books might recognize some background characters.)
Dinner time. I read 100 pages yesterday and I am track to do the same today. Giffin always reads so easy.
AC is on and my new book came (a day earlier than projected!) I am a happy camper!
Just an Fyi to other Emily Giffin fans! I sent mine out!
Modern historical fiction is one of my favorite pandemic trends. This one is set in 2001. (Out June 2nd!)
Literally ANYTHING I might say about this book would be a spoiler of some sort. Let‘s just say, I recommend you pick it up! #ARC #Edelweiss
