Currently reading this even though I know how it ends. I'm impressed with the narrator, he really embodies the casts' voices as if they're the one's narrating their parts 😮 but I do wish the cast themselves narrated their parts! Love the sound effects too! But I have a sneaky suspicion R2D2, C3PO, Keri Russell (as Zori) and D.O. from the movies themselves are voicing their parts 🤔

UPDATE: DNF'd

🎧 📚 I laughed, I cried, I cringed, I smiled.

I‘m not an overly critical fan when it comes to these movie novelizations. I enjoyed the movie & I felt the book filled a few holes.

BOOK WAS BETTER 😆

There‘s a mixture of old & new characters, music, droid beeps & light saber sounds 🖤 fun!

Only issue I had with the narrator was his female voices made me chuckle & I got the urge to hear a real Wookiee!! Otherwise, good job!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

Twainy The book is pretty and has some pictures. 4y

As we wrap-up July and move onto August, I just wanted to check in and see how everyone was doing? I quite liked the novelization of the last movie, more of everyone‘s internal growth.

Up next, a great trilogy, set after the original trilogy, as the end of the Empire puts up quite a fight after the “death” of the Emperor. I‘m looking forward to re-reading this one after Snap and crew made appearances later, and we know more about the end game.

Jari-chan I've already read “Aftermath“ and actually just started with vol 2 😄 Just missed it. I'll join again after you've read the trilogy, but will keep an eye on what you all think about the books 😊 4y
BookwormAHN I really enjoyed the The Rise of Skywalker. The expanded scenes were great. I just started Aftermath and I'm really enjoying a young Snap 😺 4y
bookandcat I didn't get to read rise of Skywalker because I don't have access to interlibrary loan during the pandemic :-( I've read aftermath trilogy before (was not a fan AT ALL) so will catch you on the flip side once the group is done with those picks (and it's a book I can obtain!). Enjoy! 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @bookandcat Will do! Sorry you can‘t get a lot of books during the pandemic, I can‘t get any from the physical books, but I‘ve can still borrow ebooks/audiobooks through the overdrive online part of the library. 4y

I really enjoyed this one, more than the movie honestly....it really helped me to get into the character‘s heads and watch their transformative thought processes along the way, which is always difficult in film.

And I still can‘t help thinking how much better the movie would have been if Carrie Fisher had not passed when she did and could have been a bigger part of that process...I could feel her absence, she is missed.

BookwormAHN I agree. Rumor has it that Disney and Lucas are working on a 4 hour long cut that will involve Matt Smith playing Palpatine's apprentice. If it happens it should be awesome 🤞🏻 4y

I love the new trilogy and throughly enjoyed the expanded books. I really enjoyed some of the new scenes in The Rise of Skywalker. Zorie has a much longer part and of course I loved more Kylo Ren/Ben Solo scenes 🖤

I've had my troubles with one at first. Which had nothing to do with Rae Carson, but more with Rey. I don't really like her that much. But sice Rae Carson is a great writer, I started to like the book more and more. Up until the moment I said: “The book is better than the movie.“ There's so much more emotion, sould and depth within all the characters. Therefore, I got a whole new understanding for their actions.

After reading this book I feel like I have a better understanding of what they did in the movie. I'm not a fan of some of the choices the film makers made, and some scenes were hard to read, but I can understand on some level the choices they made. I'm glad I read this book, and would recommend it to anyone who felt like they missed out on a lot of context from the film.

Marc Thompson, king of Star Wars audiobook narration, did a Q&A and live reading on Instagram for #maythefourth

If you didn't like the movie, this won't change anything for you. If you liked the movie, this will add a few nice nuggets of trivia, but there's nothing revelatory. I really enjoyed the film, and this was just fine. I usually enjoy Marc Thompson, but maybe because he is trying to imitate voices I know so well, I just wasn't digging it as much.

The book is good. It definitely sheds a light on a few things and ties up any loose ends. Rae Sloane did a grate at job. Five stars out of five. #tros #starwarstheriseofskywalker #theriseofskywalker #raecarson

Three of my cats decided to take a nap on my feet while I read. I was unable to move for a while. 😂 I‘m up to page 177 right after Kylo imagines that he sees Han Solo then embraces his true identity. Ben Solo. #tros #theriseofskywalker #raecarson #catsoflitsy

Nestled within this fur covered book beau is the TROS book. I‘m 23 pages into the story. I like how Rae writes the characters especially Kylo Ren. He‘s very intriguing as an antagonist. I can imagine Adam Driver portraying him as I read. #tros #theriseofskywalker #raecarson #starwars

And done. Now to write a spoiler free review since I was lucky enough to get the book early... All I‘m going to say is—wave of my hand like a Jedi—this is the novelization you have been waiting for. Carson did a remarkable job & I think fans will be pleased. I know I was—it‘s everything I hoped for & more. Now to hand it over to my son—can‘t wait to hear what he thinks!

Book is out 3/17. If you‘re a fan, it‘s definitely worth reading.

Hot off the presses...I have the book three weeks early...I heard Rae Carson talk about getting the offer to write the novelization of the movie and what that meant to her and more...I had the opportunity to tell her that my son and I read Star Wars together, that we discuss the books...my chores are done...my son keeps eyeing the book...you better believe of all the books I got at #c2e2 this weekend, I‘m reading this one first!

Three weeks early Littens (actual pub. date 3/17)! Del Rey rushed to finish the book in time for #c2e2 & they did—the book was shipped directly from the printer to the Con. Very cool! Had Carson personalize it for my son & I since we‘re reading & talking Star Wars. I‘ve only read two chapters but so far this book is the movie you wished it to be...which is to say, it‘s going a long way to provide context & make sense of things in the movie. Yay!
