21 posts | 6 read | 1 reading | 14 to read
You can thrive in the classroom. All it takes are a few moments of peace and a little focus. If you're like many teachers, your day is busy, demanding, even chaotic. But just because you live in a fast-paced, always-on world, doesn't mean your life has to feel rushed and crazy. In The Zen Teacher, educator, blogger, and speaker Dan Tricarico provides practical, easy-to-use techniques to help teachers slow down and create a sense of focus, simplicity, and tranquility in the classroom - and in life. As a teacher, you have incredible power to influence, even improve, the future. By being at your best - unrushed and fully focused - you ensure that every interaction with your students is beneficial, for them and for you. If you're new to the concept of Zen, don't worry. In this introductory guide, Dan Tricarico explains what it means to develop a Zen practice - something that has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with your ability ability to thrive in the classroom. The Zen Teacher will help you: Maximize your performance while lowering your stress. Transform your classroom and experience a better quality of life. Focus on things that really matter and let go of things you can't control. Find time to take care of yourself, so you can be at your best!

I've been practicing yoga for over 20 years. I did my yoga teacher training about 8 years ago. Meditation is a subject I am definitely familiar with, so the teachings of this book weren't new to me. However, this book was a much needed reminder of what I need to bring back into my life. The text is relatable, informative and entertaining. Each section is short so you can take in a nugget at a time. (Continued in comments)

Lmstraubie Each chapter ends with a Zen Teacher Assignment that is easily obtainable. My plan is to focus on one of the assignments for a week or two or three, however long it takes, to help bring some tranquility into my work and home life. THIS BOOK IS NOT JUST FOR TEACHERS! It really is a practical guide to adding some peace to your life. 6y
kspenmoll Got this book from @CoffeeK8 & am using it as I explore yoga -tried yrs ago but due to various injuries could not participate- now I can & I am in a class run by a fellow teacher. It‘s been wonderful- I sweat & feel muscles I never knew I had but am relaxed & refreshed at the end. (edited) 6y
CoffeeK8 @kspenmoll so glad you are enjoying it and using it. 💕 6y
Lmstraubie @kspenmoll So glad to hear you gave yoga another chance. I really don't know what I would do without it. I like the practicality of this book. Keep me posted on how it's going for you. @CoffeeK8 is a wise friend 😉 6y

It was a busy day today. I got a lot accomplished, but it feels so good to finally wind down with a good book and cup of tea. Good night Littens! 😴

Reviewsbylola Glad you at least got a relaxing night. 🥰 6y

My favorite mode of reading is a paperback book. However the Kindle app does have it's advantages. I didn't need to bring anything more than my phone to my son's dentist appointment. 🙂

After all this time? #HarryPotter and tea.

"As teachers, we have ample opportunity to show compassion in every hour of every class of every day. More than that, we have a special, even sacred, obligation to express compassion. Not only do we enlighten, but we are also expected to uplift those around us and to ease their struggles. In fact, showing grace and kindness to those around us can be one of our profession's greatest rewards."

MrBook Have you heard of this one, @BookishMarginalia ? 6y
BookishMarginalia I have, but have yet to read it. I do need some Zen in my life though 6y

I‘m placing this book in a prominent position on my bookshelf at work, and sometime during the first week of school in September, when I begin to feel overwhelmed, I‘m going to open the book back up and begin to use his zen strategies to make my life feel more balanced and energized. He has fabulous ideas and insights, and well worth a read for all #teachersoflitsy - First #makemereadit book down, thanks @TheReadingMermaid

Hey all you educators out in LitsyLand, I wanted to share with you a positive message in these trying times. When I saw great teachers burning out, melting down, and leaving the profession, I knew I needed to do something so the same thing didn't happen to me. I started a blog called The Zen Teacher (www.thezenteacher.com.) and published this book. The book is aimed at teachers, but the techniques work for anyone. We all deserve peace. Dan

This book was written by my friend and colleague, Dan Tricarico. If you love teaching but sometimes find it overwhelming and hectic, you may find some ideas about how to decompress and bring more peace to your teaching day!
