Totally missed this one so glad it came in as a personal recommendation 👏🏽 Sounds good!
This was like a lighter version of Becky Chambers A Long Way To A Small Angry Planet with a more central romance subplot. A lovely found family space opera gem. The world Koyanagi has created here is really interesting so I‘m sorry to see this is the only book in the series so far. It‘s good to see not just LBTQ relationships but also disability and illness taken on in ways that are not tropes. 3.5 stars

My current read will work for this - yay serendipity! Alana is a sky surgeon fixing spaceships but she never gets skybound herself, until a very special spaceship lands at her workshop. A spaceman came travelling for sure, but he‘s only the engineer (and he may be part wolf), the captain of THIS ship is a kick ass woman and so far that‘s who is rocking Alana‘s world. Will let you know when I finish!
Somewhere between a 🤘🏻 and a so-so, but I like the concept so I‘ll give it a 🤘🏻. The plot is a little poky and convoluted in places but I really enjoyed what the author was getting at with found families, faith, chronic illness, and metaphysics. In space. With a little polyamory. And people of color. It‘s got that grotty, lived-in feel of Star Wars. I hope there‘s more.
I stopped by my library to pay a fine and decided to look at the book sale they have and found these gems. I KNEW I pulled that extra $20 out of the ATM for a reason
ALA is great and all, but 60,000 people are WAY too many for this introvert, nice though they are 😳 Could not wait to creep back to my #Litsypartyofone and this engrossing read! @Ambrosnazzy
I'm READY for a butt-kicking heroine in a space opera. The book synopsis gives me a Firefly vibe: even better. The stars, my destination! 🚀⭐️
I'm calling this intersectional science fiction. Koyanagi features characters whose skin types, sexual preferences and open relationships are a departure from what we normally encounter in our reading. And the plot is thrilling, too. Political intrigue + complicated relationships + learning to let go and let the people you love live the life they need. I hope it'll be the first in a series featuring this ship and crew.
Hello, random Twitter find. You seem interesting and fun. Here, have my money, I would like to read you.
This story was beautiful. I really enjoyed it and I finished it crying! Seeing Alana grow and develop acceptance for her love for Tev, and Tev's love for Slip, and Slip's love for Ovie was just great. :-)
I didn't understand everything, though, so I think four stars is the right rating from me.

And now to go to sleep, as my puppy-son wishes. :-)

"Grief makes its home in silence and idleness."
So very true. I'm grateful for my service dog. Things are rarely silent or idle with him in my life, and when he is "silent," it's a healthy quiet.
(This quote is on page 133 of Ascension by Jacqueline Koyanagi.)

I have Ascension by Jacqueline Koyanagi checked out from my library as an Interlibrary Loan, so I have to take a break from the Otherworld/Sisters of the Moon series by Yasmine Galenorn to read it.
But happily, I've read one-third of the 18 books in the OW/SotM series. Books One through Six are really fun, really great, and I'm glad I was able to read them back-to-back. :-)
But for now...Ascension, here I come!

I need to get to sleep, I NEEEEEED my 7 hours but I'm 23% into this and I could eat it up with a spoon in just one sitting. GODDAMN
I really need to stop looking at book rec lists, but I can't seem to help myself. Especially when I saw the historical romance list. That list continues on the back of the page and that's even skipping the ones I'd already read! (Was sad to see Sabrina Jeffries and Eloisa James were not on the list, but they're both on my fave list)
If y'all have any others to add, please let me know! I love reading what ppl suggest. #bookrecs
