Both of 12 year old Kay‘s parents have died and her much older sister is just married, so she ends up joining them on the voyage of her brother-in-law‘s ship heading around the world in 1911. This book, and Kay, has a marvelous connection to the ocean and also explores colonialist attitudes. Highly recommend.
This was to be my book for Micronesia for #ReadingOceania2024, but none of it takes place there. It does work for Tonga.

The People in the Trees: A Novel
Hooked_on_books @BarbaraBB I‘m pretty sure I‘ll read that eventually, since I loved To Paradise and have A Little Life queued up on audio from the library. I found a different book for Micronesia that I‘ve put in a hold for. It‘s a memoir of a guy who went there and worked in some sort of law enforcement capacity. Sounds interesting and different. 3mo
