The Last of the Moon Girls
The Last of the Moon Girls | Barbara Davis
A novel of secrets, memory, family, and forgiveness by the bestselling author of When Never Comes. Lizzy Moon never wanted Moon Girl Farm. Eight years ago, she left the land that nine generations of gifted healers had tended, determined to distance herself from the whispers about her family's strange legacy. But when her beloved grandmother Althea dies, Lizzy must return and face the tragedy still hanging over the farm's withered lavender fields: the unsolved murders of two young girls, and the cruel accusations that followed Althea to her grave. Lizzy wants nothing more than to sell the farm and return to her life in New York, until she discovers a journal Althea left for her--a Book of Remembrances meant to help Lizzy embrace her own special gifts. When she reconnects with Andrew Greyson, one of the few in town who believed in Althea's innocence, she resolves to clear her grandmother's name. But to do so, she'll have to decide if she can accept her legacy and whether to follow in the footsteps of all the Moon women who came before her.

Omigosh, this book took over and did not let me go!!! Not my usual but it's got magical realism, a cold case & romance, not to mention a complicated mother-daughter relationship! The Moons have been independent women with special gifts for generations. Lizzy moves away from the farm to pursue life in NYC but returns after her grandmother passes. Did someone order several cans of worms and childhood trauma? Coming right up! 😍

I figured out some of the plot and the killers but it was still a great story. I enjoyed the history of the family and Lizzie‘s fervor in clearing her grandmothers name and “saving” the farm. I LOVED this book! Book #73 in 2021

There are an infinite numbers of paths in this life. Some are well traveled, others must be forged. But none should be walked with a guilty or bitter heart.

This is one book I didn‘t want to end. It just a beautiful story of family. Lizzie comes back to moon farm after the death of her grandma with one plan in place sell moon farm snd carry on with her life. But is this a time to look at the past events and right any wrongs

A blend of magical realism & suspense. Good, quick read with a light magical feel. The writing is like a blend of Sarah Addison Allen & Alice Hoffman, creating an atmosphere of cozy, small town vibes & magic while also introducing a darker feel & ostracizing community. Colorful characters & tension in a suspense arc that moves the story well. The narrative was mildly tropey & predictable, but in a way that might make it the perfect beach read.

Oh, my! What a beautiful book! There is so much here: mystery, family and relationships, a bit of magic. It all works with some of the most beautifully written “life lessons” I‘ve ever read. This was a Prime First Reads choice for me, and I couldn‘t have chosen a more perfect book, even though it‘s quite different from what I usually read. Excuse me while I wipe away the tears 😊

Kindle is offering two free first reads books this month! These are the two I chose: the story of a woman exploring her father's past during WWII and the story of a woman who inherits her childhood farm and discovers herself.

sprainedbrain I got those two as well. 😊 4y
