“A person was like a city. You couldn‘t let a few less desirable parts put you off the whole. There may be bits you don‘t like, a few dodgy side streets and suburbs, but the good stuff makes it worth while. “

1. Groggy, just waking up. It takes a little awake time for my head to clear.
2. I'm going to a presentation on pressure canning beans today. Ridiculously looking forward to it. 😀
I just finished The Midnight Library. It was a slow start for me but once I realized it was all about your mental health it became quite powerful to me. I am going to buy a used copy to highlight the heck out of it.

Love the concept and story but there is just something that is not keeping me as engaged as I would like. Pacing? Writing style? Just trying to figure it out.

Saw a lot of mixed reviews on this book. Nora is depressed and decides to take her own life but instead of dying she finds herself in what is called The Midnight Library where she can go back in life and try to live the lives she regretted not living before. I thought the story was very introspective and had a lot of good points to make you appreciate the life you have. Not my favorite but a decent read nonetheless.
Started this audiobook. I've seen quite a bit of mixed reviews on this on. Hope I enjoy it. :)
Page after page of someone wallowing in self-pity. Not only is it a downer, but it‘s a bore. Depressed, don‘t read. Insomnia, it will help you sleep.
Read this book for book club and think it will be a great one to discuss. It had many topics one can relate to in one's life - mental health, regret, small and large decisions that can affect/change the course of one's life and impact other's lives, the power of books. I thoroughly enjoyed this quick read.
My library got an upgrade for Christmas!! So happy with this space.
This one juuuuust squeaks by as a "Pick" for me. I really enjoyed the fast pace and quick chapters as we tag along with Nora living other possible lives. This is a feel-good story that doesn't shy away from incredibly dark themes and situations - which earns it points from me!
That said, the book could have been shorter. The end felt a bit pandering and predictable - at times minimizing the depth at which many struggle with choosing to live.
We all have the “what if..” thoughts in life. Is the grass really greener on the other side? I enjoyed the perspective of looking at another “life” if a different choice was made. I honestly couldn‘t put this one down and read it within 2 days. This is definitely a new favorite!
Such a Veronika Decides To Die vibe to it. But that was one of my fav books, so I did enjoy this one :)
Also, yes! You can tell so much about someone by watching how they treat others!

I finished 6 out of the 9 books listed for my #HauntedShelf #TBR. I got a good chunk of 2 others (Evil Harvest and Midnight Library). All in all. This was such a fun experience. Thank you for being our team leader: @CatsAndBooks

@Ruthiella I was hoping someone would ask. These were my purchases from the Bee is for Books bookstore in Beeville! It was a funny little bookstore. There were huge sections for romance and sci-fi. When I said just fiction please the owner looked at me like I‘d lost my mind. So I said, historical fiction please. Same response. But he said, if there is any it‘s in there pointing to two small shelves marked fiction. So, I know what they‘re ⬇️
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Midnight Library is a mood read. I can see why the reviews are so mixed. I read this on the cusp of summer ending, and so, it was the right time for me. Autumn not just spooky season, it‘s also a time where “death” feels closer I feel. Themes of suicide are heavy in this story, but it‘s also inspiring in many ways.
