I love John Connelly and this series, this being number 18. This authors vocabulary is exceptional and after I have read one of his novels I feel unfulfilled with the writing of others. Most authors seem to write for grade 10 English but this one makes me stop and look at the words that I usually never see. It's fabulous. And the story line is great too. Love Angel and Louis, Parkers sidekicks.

This was another great book in this series. It's a prequel to the series, taking place after the events of the first book. It didn't have the supernatural aspect that some of the later books have, but it's a gritty crime novel with some good plot twists. I was very happy when Angel and Louis showed up too.
I took a chance starting this long series already in progress by picking up this prequel (the 18th in the series!!). I loved it!! I got a pretty good feel for Charlie Parker. I got a great sense of the setting of the story, which takes place in Cargill, Arkansas in 1997, not long after Parker‘s wife and daughter were murdered. Lots of detail, lots of stuff going on, lots of characters. It made me excited to start this series from the beginning.
This is the 18th book in the Charlie Parker series, but it is sort of a prequel to the series. So even though I haven‘t read the rest of the series yet, I decided to jump in here and then start back at the first book. Hopefully this works well as a starting off point!
A prequel to the series, gives a bit more background to things. Still a brilliant set of crimes to solve and Angel and Louis are here too. Love this series ♥️

I‘ve read everything that John Connolly has written and I love them all. In this fascinating story, we meet a younger Charlie Parker. The murder of his wife and daughter a more recent tragedy, the ghost of his daughter less substantial, Charlie is following atrocities in hopes of finding the killer. Set in Arkansas, political corruption looms large.
A great addition to the Parker series!

There isn‘t enough space to put down all the words that make this my favorite series. Slipping into Charlie Parker‘s world along with such eloquent writing takes my breath away. Brutality and rich characters never meant so much to me. Read them all!

Fans of Ozark... this one might be for you! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ full review Scrappymags.com Charlie Parker has a score to settle. His wife and daughter murdered, he finds himself in Cargill, AR an “armpit “ of America. Girls are dying in horrifying ways - some prefer to sweep them away and save the town‘s image. Parker is pulled in to help a local officer - while most don‘t want him there & go to lengths to keep Parker away and the town secrets hushed
I pre-ordered this one almost a year ago- but have been prolonging the build-up and waited to treat myself to this prequel (of sorts) in the amazing Charlie Parker series. I LOVED it! Set in the late ‘90s in Arkansas, Parker passes through a small town to look at some cold cases that rapidly heat back up. With excellent characters, a strong setting and a compelling plot, this is a fantastic addition to the series! I can‘t wait to see what‘s next!
Brilliant book 📚 couldn‘t put it down highly recommend it 📖📚
