Guillermo del Toro: At Home with Monsters: Inside His Films, Notebooks, and Collections
Guillermo del Toro: At Home with Monsters: Inside His Films, Notebooks, and Collections | Guillermo Del Toro
16 posts | 6 read | 28 to read
The perfect companion piece to an enthralling new exhibition on the visionary work and fervent imagination of director Guillermo del Toro. In 2016, a new exhibit on the work of visionary director Guillermo del Toro will begin at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), before moving on to the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) and the Minneapolis Museum of Art (MIA). This book will be the perfect accompaniment to the exhibition, which focuses on del Toro s creative process, including the well-defined themes that he obsessively returns to in all his films, the journals in which he logs his ideas, and the vast and inspiring collection of art and pop culture ephemera that he has amassed at his private man cave, Bleak House. Filled with imagery from the exhibit, including favorite pieces of art that del Toro has chosen for the exhibit, and pertinent journal pages, the book will further delve further into the director s world through exclusive in-depth interviews and commentary from notable figures in the art world. Forming a perfect companion to the exhibition, this book will deliver an engrossing look into the mind of one of the great creative visionaries of our time."

Visited the del Toro exhibit at the Art Gallery of Ontario with my eldest daughter yesterday. Room after room of art, artefacts, props, and all things that influenced him throughout his life. Spoiler alert, books!! His collection of stuff is incredible, macabre, creepy and yet beautiful.

Joybishoptx I would love to see that! 7y
Godmotherx5 Impressive. I‘d love that. 7y

Same.

Stole this quote from an LA Times article about Del Toro's new film. But it speaks to me deeply. 🖤

#monsters #Frankenstein #deltoro

vivastory ... and screenshot. He wrote the introduction to the recently released annotated Frankenstein. I'm really curious about his new film. It looks like it might be connected to hellboy. Also really surprising is the R rating 7y
SkeletonKey @vivastory - I wonder if it's the same forward he did for the penguin horror collection? Now I need yet another edition of Frankenstein because I bet it's wonderful annotated 😂 7y
vivastory I love the annotated editions. Do you own the complete penguin horror series? I only have the Lovecraft, but I love it. 7y

SkeletonKey @vivastory - Yes, all of it. There were only 6 so bit by bit I completed the set. They're all great. 7y
vivastory I've been really tempted to buy them. The problem with editions like that is they're so beautiful I don't want to accidentally damage them while reading them. I have the same problem with signed editions 7y
SkeletonKey @vivastory - I remind myself that I'm gonna die when I stop myself from enjoying my favorite things 😂😂😂 Plus I like my books better well-loved. But it's a tough habit to break. 7y
PirateJenny @vivastory all the Penguin Horrors with the del Toro intros now have paperback versions (some had paperback versions beforehand). So you can have the pretty editions and then read the paperbacks or ebook versions. The intros were cut in the paperbacks to refer only to the book the intro is appearing in. 7y
vivastory @PirateJenny Great. Thanks for the info! Looks like I have some books to buy 7y

I was so proud of the restraint I showed last month. Yes, I bought books, but I didn't buy enough to fill half a bookcase. Apparently my inner book monster thought that was a load of garbage and convinced me to buy more than double that number this month.

👹

Now excuse me while I go play book Tetris because my library has far exceeded the space on my shelves. 📚

Riveted_Reader_Melissa It's a struggle, but as I add new I'm trying to make an effort to pass on those I've read and didn't feel the need to hang on to. 7y
BekahB @Riveted_Reader_Melissa my bookshelves are definitely overdue for a cull. I have a hard time getting rid of books but I can usually make a decent amount of space after a few passes. 😄 7y

Like all good creatives, Director Guillermo Del Toro gets some of his inspiration from books. On the left is his collection of the Lang Fairy books ( I had those growing up) and on the rights is a book engraving from Blake. This exhibit at LA's County Museum of Art was amazing, check it out.

TheLondonBookworm Omg these books look amazing! I find fairy tales of all kinds fascinating, I even wrote my dissertation on them! 8y
CherylDeFranceschi @TheLondonBookworm Have you read this? An amazing duo of nesting tales. 8y

This was an amazing exhibit at The Los Angeles County Museum of Art. So many creepy inspirations from the mind of Guillermo Del Toro. Lots of lifelike models from his movies: Pan's Labyrinth, Crimson Peak, Hell Boy 1 & 2. If you are in the area, you should check it out and discover why he's so creepy.

LauraJ 💕del Toro! 8y
BookishFeminist So cool & jealous! @Shortstack I know you're in the area and would probably love to see this. ☠ 8y
LadyChristy This exhibit comes to us early next year! Cannot wait! 😆 8y
