This one wasn‘t for me. I found it slow and I didn‘t connect with any of the characters. Every time I had to put it down, I was never excited to pick it up again!

Books with food on the cover, as suggested by @ljuliel (I expanded the request to include a few drinks ☺️)

ljuliel Thanks for posting. You picked sone good ones. The pop cover is neat and the hummingbird cake one looks good enough to eat ! 5y
RainyDayReading Does that say ‘What Would Satan Do?‘ 🤣 Thats hilarious. I certainly hope he would eat that ice cream is what he should do! Now I want ice cream 🙈 5y
bookandbedandtea @RainyDayReading That is what it says and I totally forgot I had this book till I went hunting for food books!

Pickpick

Main character is a young widow and food writer who finds herself in China for both food-writing work and for personal reasons. The plot was somewhat predictable, but really enjoyed the descriptions of authentic Chinese cuisine and it‘s intertwinings with the culture there. I‘ll give this a pick.

(I love this cover 😍. It‘s an ARC. The local used book store that benefits senior citizens takes donations rather than payments for ARCs).

Reggie That cover is striking! 5y
ValerieAndBooks @Reggie it sure is — and nothing like what was actually used. 5y

#RockinMay #chinagrove & #MayBookFlowers #farflung -Nicole Mones writes some great books set in far flung China, so I'm combining photo challenges today. My favorite of her books is The Last Chinese Chef. It was universally loved when I hosted it for virtual foodie blogging book club & it inspired me to make some lovely congee (rice porridge) with plenty of toppings. I'll link to my review/recipe & other books below. #foodiefiction #litsycooks🍴📚

Pickpick

This was a fun light read. As a fan of foodie fiction I enjoyed reading about the food history and culture of China, a cuisine I have not yet explored beyond the Americanized version (which I'm to understand is as close to the real thing as banana flavored laffy taffy is to a real banana). The characters were engaging and the writing was well done.

#FoodieFiction and one that's on my TBR. I can tell, just by looking at the first few pages, that I will need to go out to a Chinese restaurant while reading it. #ReadJanuary

EvieBee One of my favorites and you definitely will crave Chinese food! (edited) 8y

Hobbinol What a beautiful board and teapots! 8y
DeborahSmall Love your tray and teapots. I can't read Chinese cookbooks without craving Chinese food. I love cooking it too. Indian food is my favourite, Chinese second. I just love food! 💕😘 8y
LeahBergen @Hobbinol Thank you! 😘 8y
LeahBergen @DeborahSmall Those are my two faves, as well. Whenever I read ANY sort of book set in India or China I immediately have to go out to dinner. 🐷 8y
DeborahSmall 😘 I ended up eating Chinese food last night for dinner ❤️ 8y
LeahBergen @DeborahSmall 😂 And now I'm craving Indian. 8y
DeborahSmall I had a lovely biryani at the weekend, Pakistani origin I think but a favourite in Indian restaurants. I make a good Indian curry. My aunt married an Indian man over 30 years ago and is a great cook. He unfortunately had a wife back in India and left her note telling her! Brutal!! 😂My eldest cousin is half Indian but he doesn't embrace that side of his culture x 8y
Jaimelire Looks good. Must read with Chinese take out! 8y
