Yes Chef! | Lisa Joy

#HeyJune #AHardDaysNight Poor Becca, she‘s working for the hottest chef in London, as his personal assistant who seems to think Becca‘s entire being is to cater to his every ridiculous whim 24/7. This was light and fun, a juicy summer read!

CoffeeAndABook Sounds fun 👏 👋🌸☕️ 6y
Cinfhen It really was a fun read @CoffeeAndABook it‘s a definite #BorrowNotBuy but perfect for the sunny days ahead 💛🧡 6y
CoffeeAndABook @Cinfhen Yay 😁 just found a good deal to buy it as an ebook! I don‘t know anyone but my American mom who reads and lends English books here in Germany, so I rely mostly on the Oxfam second hand books English shelf which almost always has something surprisingly good in store for me. And ebooks!!! And once in a while I do buy a real new book in a bookstore as well 😉 6y

CoffeeAndABook @Cinfhen I live in a fairly big city, Cologne, so we get well stocked English selections in big book stores & even original language movies in our cinemas. What‘s your experience where you live in Israel?? 6y
emilyhaldi Sounds like a chef's version of 6y
DebinHawaii This looks like a fun one! 🥄📚 6y
Cinfhen It‘s a #foodiefiction you might really enjoy 💋 6y
Cinfhen Great description @emilyhaldi 👌🏼 6y
Cinfhen @CoffeeAndABook The second hand/charity shops have TONS of used English books bc most pple in my city are immigrants from US, UK, South Africa, AU & Canada. The library has a lot too but they are pretty old. One bookstore has a GREAT selection of books but they are expensive. I rely on friends & Family to ship books and I always try to bring back books when I travel. I miss the amazing library system in the States!!! 6y
CoffeeAndABook @Cinfhen I‘m so glad, it sounds like you‘re well taken care of book wise. You‘re so lucky 🍀 Except for the library situation... which is truly exceptional in the US! Which city do you live in? Obvs you don‘t have to tell if you‘d rather not. I‘m just always curious 😉 6y
Cinfhen In Israel I live in Ra‘Anana which is outside of TelAviv in the states I lived in the suburbs of Philadelphia xx @CoffeeAndABook I‘m happy to share and I‘m curious too.!! 6y
CoffeeAndABook @Cinfhen thank you for telling me ☺️ I checked it out, you live so close to the Mediterranean, that‘s amazing!!! I‘ve never been to either Israel or Philly, both I‘d like to visit some day. My mom‘s family are out West, Colorado (where I‘ve also gone to school for a while) and Arizona 🌄🌵 I‘m planning on visiting them in October & am already excited!! Are you flying out to the States anytime soon? 6y
Cinfhen And I‘ve never been to Colorado or Arizona @CoffeeAndABook but I hear they are beautiful states with amazing climates and landscape!!! Post pics when u go!!! We are heading back East beginning of July for 3 weeks💟😀it‘s always great to spend time with friends & family ❣️❣️🙌🏻❣️❣️ 6y
CoffeeAndABook @Cinfhen Ooh exciting!! That‘s so soon!! Be sure to post lots of pics as well 📸📸📸 😊 6y

#TBRtemptation post 1! "You've Got Mail" meets "Julie & Julia" in this #foodiefiction book. Top pastry chef Sophie & her sommelier fiancé were supposed to have Chicago's culinary wedding of the year. But then he eloped very publicly. And then she lost her job. Laying low, she moved in with her grandmother & grandmother's pug. She eventually becomes an online wedding planner. All kinds of twists ensue. Recipes included! #blameLitsy #blameMrBook ?

Mehso-so

I'm surprised that this debut made the Baileys Longlist (2015? 16?) While the premise is good the execution was a bit Return of the Pink Panther( think zany screwball 1970's caper) It just didn't work for me?‍♀️ I like that the painting was a "character" & that fulfilled my #popsugarchallenge (non human perspective) box,so props for that! I did enjoy the #FoodieFiction aspect but overall meh 2/5 ?

TrishB Great review - which coupled with the blurb means I'm not reading this 😀 7y
KarenUK Nice Review 👍and Oh no! I was looking forward to this one... 7y
Reviewsbylola Definitely not for me, although it sounds interesting. 7y

saresmoore Oof. My husband has made me sit through too many Pink Panther (and similarly zany) films. This would drive me crazy, too! (edited) 7y
Megabooks This was a bail for me. I skipped to the end. The painting talking was really weird! 7y
Redwritinghood I had similar feelings about this one. Just mediocre at best. 7y
Cinfhen Yeah, this was a dud 😖 @Redwritinghood @Booksandcooks @saresmoore @Reviewsbylola @KarenUK @TrishB I might check out the author again though..she showed some signs of promise 7y
WanderingBookaneer This goes to show how diverse tastes really are. I enjoyed the 70's caper aspect. I also enjoyed the hints of a thriller sprinkled throughout, but I agree about the ending. I hope the other books I sent fare better. 7y
WanderingBookaneer Also, I listened to the audiobook. Maybe that made a difference. 7y
Cinfhen Thanks @WanderingBookaneer I'm still glad I got a chance to read this one, it was on my TBR....And the other two books were AWESOME 😍lots of feels and tons of love~ so 2/3 is excellent👍🏻how you liking the blue hair??? I think it's hot🔥🔥🔥🔥 7y
WanderingBookaneer Phew! I'm glad you loved the other two. Blue hair is amazing. Great for morale. Strangers stop me to say they love it. 7y

Crescent: A Novel | Diana Abu-Jaber
post image

I was catching up on email tonight and noticed that the e-book of this foodie novel is on sale for $1.99 Amazon, B &N, Apple, Google & Kobo. If you like foodie fiction, this one is set in L.A. but features Iraqi-Americans & immigrants, academia, a chef & plenty of delicious food. It's romance, but more literary. I recommend it! The author's other books are also great. #foodiefiction #foodiebooks 🍴📚👍

Cinfhen Thanks for the heads up! I'm going to put it on my list. 7y
DebinHawaii @Cinfhen My pleasure! I know how much you need books for your TBR list! 😂👍📚📚📚📚📚 7y

The Last Chinese Chef | Nicole Mones
post image

#RockinMay #chinagrove & #MayBookFlowers #farflung -Nicole Mones writes some great books set in far flung China, so I'm combining photo challenges today. My favorite of her books is The Last Chinese Chef. It was universally loved when I hosted it for virtual foodie blogging book club & it inspired me to make some lovely congee (rice porridge) with plenty of toppings. I'll link to my review/recipe & other books below. #foodiefiction #litsycooks🍴📚

Flaneurette When I adopted my girls in China I would buy them congee usually with chicken. It was perfect baby food! 7y

Pickpick

"Delight is indeed born in the heart. It sometimes also depends on its surroundings."

"That if I got a second chance, I needed to give one, too"
Lou cut a piece of cake and set it on the plate.

•Predictable at times, this book warmed my heart, inspired my palate, teared me up, and left a smile on my face. I'm so glad she included the coconut cake recipe at the end.

Hoopiefoot I enjoyed this one too 💜🎂 8y
Jess_Read_This @Hoopiefoot I really want to read her Simplicity of Cider next. Along with baking that coconut cake! 💕 8y
Hoopiefoot @Jess_Read_This Oooh-I didn't know about that one. Will have to check it out! 8y

For lovers of #foodiefiction, the appealing main character in this novel is revealed over time through the people she interacts with and the food that she cooks. While I would have liked even more about the main character - there isn't enough of her in some chapters, in my opinion - it's a lovely book with an unusual structure and a strong sense of place.

saresmoore This is such a cute photo! 8y
Megabooks I just picked this up. So happy to know it's good! 8y

#funfridayphoto One of my favorite books made into a movie (because I can't always use P&P and The Princess Bride for everything!) 😆 Although I slightly prefer the book, I think that the passion, magic and lush feel of the words and story translated well to film and I love (and own) them both. #foodiefiction #chocolate 💜🍫

AmandaL Great choice! 8y
KVanRead I loved how the book had recipes! 8y
BethFishReads What? We can't answer P&P to everything???? 8y

DebinHawaii @AmandaL Thanks! 👍😀 @KVanRead Me too! @BethFishReads Well I figured I should limit it to once per day at least & I had to go with it for 'most reread!' 😆😆 8y
Larkken Haha... Most used for prompts is becoming a section of my bookshelf, too! 8y
EvieBee Yes! In this case saw the movie first and then read the lovely book. 8y
