'Impossible to read without smiling - escapist romantic comedy at its finest' Lauren Layne 'Once you start reading, you won't be able to put it down' Lyssa Kay Adams What happens when your love life becomes the talk of the town? As birthdays go, this year's for radio producer Everly Dean hit rock-bottom. Worse than the 'tonsillectomy birthday'. Worse than the birthday her parents decided to split (the first time). But catching your boyfriend cheating on you with his assistant? Even clichs sting. But this is Everly's year! She won't let her anxiety hold her back. She'll pitch her podcast idea to her boss. There's just one problem. Her boss, Chris, is very cute. (Of course). Also, he's extremely distant (which means he hates her, right? Or is that the anxiety talking)? And, Stacey the DJ didn't mute the mic during Everly's rant about Simon the Snake (syn: Cheating Ex). That's three problems. Suddenly, people are lining up to date her, Bachelorette-style, fans are voting (Reminder: never leave house again), and her interest in Chris might be a two-way street. It's a lot for a woman who could gold medal in people-avoidance. She's going to have to fake it 'till she makes it to get through all of this. Perhaps she'll make a list: The Ten Rules for Faking It. Because sometimes making the rules can find you happiness when you least expect it. 'A funny, sweet rom com from a fresh, sparkling new voice' Andie J. Christopher

A cute romance that had a good balance of light-hearted rom-com while providing a good portrayal of a character who has social anxiety. There‘s no spice (it‘s a slow burn) but it‘s a sweet HEA.

Book 1 for #joyousjanuary 🎉

“While there might be varying degrees of magnitude as to how much, Everly Dean firmly believed that birthdays sucked.”

Funny coincidence me picking up this book & this being the first line since today is my birthday & I‘ve been stuck inside since I tested positive for Covid on Monday. Luckily my symptoms have been almost nothing except a bad cold, but it sucks being quarantined on my birthday. 😞

Suet624 Happy birthday! And I'm sorry about being quarantined. 😍 1y

Started this one last night and while it isn‘t gripping me quite yet I am liking Everly and Chris. They have a fun dynamic

It‘s Everly Dean‘s 30th birthday. It‘s supposed to be a great day to celebrate but not for Everly. Instead, it‘s the worst birthday she has had. It starts with Everly walking in on her boyfriend cheating on her. Chris is her boss. He gets her. I recommend reading this book to see how their story unfolds.

Everly‘s 30th b-day is the worst day of her life. She walked in on her boyfriend having sex with his assistant. Then she had accidentally had a rant about the experience on air on the radio! What might raise her rating and get her and best friend, Staci the coveted morning spot?Everly is launched into a Bachlorette type dating game that she discusses on air for the stations loaners. It would all be fine and dandy but she has crippling social anxiety.

I really enjoyed this one. I‘m glad to be fitting a few romances in for Valentine‘s Day.

I appreciated that the story touched upon how the main character‘s anxiety impacted her relationships. That was very relatable for me.

Another book checked off my #bookspingo

AkashaVampie i just got this one on audio. I hope to get to it soon. 3y

My February book spin list. I got several challenge check offs added to my list this month, including a few audio books. I am hoping this helps me get caught up on my challenges. January got off to a slow start.

January got off to a slow start, but was able to get 8 books read, one bingo, and finish my #bookspin book (Tailspin) and #doublespin (The Orphan‘s Tale). My favorites of the month were definitely The Survivors and The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue.

TheAromaofBooks Yay!! Fantastic month!! 3y

AmyG Good. An hour after you take it off....it will be like it never happenned. Oh wait...she is a cat! 🤣 3y
Lovesbooks87 @AmyG yea she had to go back to the vets today because she still isn‘t really drinking a lot and the vet took off the cone to see if it could stay off. But she went right to messing with her tail. That‘s what she had her surgery on so he said she had to wear it. But tonight she found out if she sats up a certain way she can lick her tail! 🤦🏻‍♀️ 3y

Received a review copy from SMP Romance.

Content Warning: (Social) anxiety, panic attacks

Low steam: slow slow slow burn, they don't kiss until about 85% of the book

This book has one of my favorite tropes: secret/hidden identities.

Really enjoyed the story, but some parts wrapped up too quickly, and other parts lingered too long. These took away from the central story. I'm looking forward to reading more from author in future

Ten Rules for Faking It is a fun romantic comedy. The characters are great. Everly has social anxiety which makes it hard for her to get close to people. Dating multiple men is not something she has ever done before and sometimes too much for her.

Thank you St. Martin‘s Press/ St. Martin‘s Griffin and NetGalley for Ten Rules for Faking It.

Romantic reads aren‘t really my go-to but this sounded like a cute read to breeze through during the holidays- and it is for the most part. There are some funny parts that made me laugh. The main character‘s anxiety gives this a fresh and enlightening perspective but serves as the main source of development. The pacing- especially with the details of the dating contest- bogs down this one a bit too. And workplace romances border on squirmy...

I wanted to like this one because the premise sounded unique and fun but this was an absolute slog for me. Points for good anxiety rep with Everly but no points for anything else. Her chemistry with Chris was nonexistent, and I just couldn't bring myself to care about either of their personal issues beyond Everly's anxiety management. Also, are we really not going to be a little more explicit about the ethics of the boss/employee thing in 2020?

Overall, this was an enjoyable read; would have liked to see this shortened a bit as it felt really long to me. I learn right off the bat that Chris has been crushing hard for Everly, but it felt slightly awkward for me since I didn't see the build up to why he was pretty much in love with her. I was really hoping for more during the dating portion of the story. I think I'd tell them this could have used a bit more editing to tighten the story.
