I‘m not sure which part I found the most charming/entertaining - a witch who traps princesses in towers for the art of it, a princess who eventually realises that violence is the answer and a bottom of the garden fairy with a penchant for science, tactics and explosives. This was my first Tamsyn Muir - and I loved how this unfolded so I suspect - not my last.

Our Princess Floralinda is locked in a tower waiting for a prince to save her -- but what if princes are, in fact, useless??

I went so long w/o a 5 star and now I'm overwhelmed with them - I guess that reading new-to-me books by my favorite authors was the solution 😂. I wondered where this was going for a minute, but I was not salty about it bc of how much I love Tamsyn Muir's writing; however, the ending of this story is perfect. Just perfect.

Floralinda is a beautiful princess trapped in a forty-flight tower by a witch. Princes came at the beginning, but after they are all crunched up by the dragon on floor one, Floralinda has to find her own way out of the tower, battling the monsters on each floor on her way down!

This was a fun fast read, and the audio with Moira Quirk is fantastic ☺️

This was a fun, dark fairytale reimagining. Princess Floralinda is trapped at the top of a forty flight tower, waiting for a prince to rescue her. But no prince has made it past the dragon on Flight One. It's up to Floralinda to venture down the tower and overcome the monsters on each flight on her own. The humor of the story was very cheeky and I loved the inventive battle techniques

My first 5 star read of 2023. I couldn't find this one in the database, but I'm coming to love Tamsyn Muir's novellas more than her full-length books. The world she created in this one was awesome. I would have loved to spend more time in this world. And I'm counting this as my #booked2023 pandemic book cause zombies and ghouls count, right? 😄

I wanted to like this one more than I did. I get that the princess is supposed to save herself, I‘m totally cool with that. I didn‘t like how most of it happened off screen because it‘s a novella. She just listed off the monsters but you didn‘t see Floralinda interact with them. Overall, okay because it was short.

Princess Floralinda is disappointed. A witch kidnapped her and keeps her on the 40th floor of a tower filled with all sorts of dangerous creatures. Princes come and fail to free her.

What's a princess going to do? Right, take her fate into her own hands.

Floralinda is not as badass as Gideon and Harrow, but very very close.

A quick listen while organizing data for the shop this morning. Absolutely loved it!

When Floralinda realizes that no prince can save her, she must save herself. By the end she is battlechanged and what does that mean for the life of a princess?

When you‘re a princess stuck at the top of a monster filled tower and the princes can‘t make it past the 1st floor, what can you do but try to make it down yourself?

This was a fun subversion of fairytales and the princess rescue. And I liked feeling smart at the references I recognized.

I‘m not sure how I feel about the end. Every few chapters what I wanted changed, and what did happen was more disheartening than I had hoped. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

This is giving me Princess Fiona vibes so I must read!

June wrap up! Thanks to Summer Reading at the library, June is typically a slow month for me book wise, and that was very true this year.

Such a fun, witty take on fairy tale tropes. Loved the humor and the touch of horror. A quick, satisfying read that had me chuckling throughout.

Just started but I am having so much fun with this very funny, self aware fairy tale take. A princess is locked in a monster filled tower but the princes who come to rescue her don't make it past the first level so she needs to rescue herself.

This one is a hard one to review and I waffled between pick and meh. It was an engaging read but I had some issues with some of the character and plot development. In the end, I did decide on pick because I still enjoyed it and much of the issues are explained by the satirical nature of the book. Think a grittier, darker version of Princeless.

A Princess trapped in a tower gets tired of waiting for a Prince to rescue her so with the help of a snarky fairy they battle mythical beasts on each floor as they make their way down the tower.
So much fun!!! Great satire! I wish this was a full length novel.

I think this sounds amazing! I couldn't resist, I only wish I could get a physical copy.

2. Because of 2020 my reading definitely changed. I was always a multi genre reader, but I leaned way more heavily to romance after the pandemic started.

A snarky, semi-satirical princess-in-the-tower tale where, after watching prince after prince fail to get past the dragon, Princess Floralinda has to take it upon herself to defeat the beasts inhabiting all forty levels of her tower. Explores gender roles & fairy tale tropes. Definitely nothing like Gideon the Ninth. Not a fan of the first line which felt appropiative but once you get past that & lean into the satire it's a fun read.
